What is the difference between a b18a and a b18b ??
My b18b is going turbo. I'm being offered a b18a for cheap. Thinking of buying it for parts or replacement if I blow mine. What you can say??
Thanks
Thanks
if you buy the b18a ill sell you some b18b cams crom a 97 or 96 ls head. i heard these are beefy for stock cams. my friend that i got the head off of use to beat other ls eg's stock vs stock with driver capabilities being the same as well.

THe bottom end is identical, the difference is in port size, IM design, cam profile, and ECU tune.
Remember, 90-91 B18A made 130 hp, 92-93 B18A made 140 hp, 94+ B18B made 142 hp. Big whoopty ****.

when I put a 1994 B18B head next to a 1990 B18A head, and measured ports with my calipers, they were the same opening size. Passages looked identical to the naked eye, too. chambers also looked the same.
Intake runners I believe are shorter on the B18B..moved the powerband up a few hundred rpm.

Hrm, I know there is a visible difference between port sizes if you lay two heads next to each other. Half the B18A **** I have laying around is automagic, so that may be the difference between your findings and mine.

Is there no difference in compression...? The B18A still has a 9.2:1 compression...? I don't know either way, but it seems that the B18B might have a little higher compression... Neone know for sure...?

Maybe you were comparing the 90-91 A's to the B's whereas the 92-93 A's and B's use the same head design.

That could be it. I was given a bunch of the heads to use as welding jigs, but do remember I tore one of the small port B18A's off of a 90 LS. The rest I really don't know the what/when/where/why of.

Thank you all for the info. What I'm really interest (block, crank) seems to be the same as my b18b, just in case I blow it.
