Default Noob Question, how can you tell if pressure plate is going bad?

just wonder cause it seems as though my clutch was still in perfect condition the last time i took it out for an inspection. i installed a new cm pressure plate but it was only from a stage one kit, and i have a sprung 6 puck that i'm using. in the last week or so, i haven't been able to boost past 8psi and it feels as though i'm redlining my car at 5k rpms. my buddy says that my clutch is slipping but could it be that the 6 puck ate through the pressure plate?
