Default First modification for a TYPE-R

I want to know what would be first thing you would modify for your ITR? I'm planning to use a re-programmable ECU then Exhaust system. Any ideas?

ECU should be one of the last things changed....do intake and exhaust first

For me it would be the brake pads.

If you do aggressive street driving the stock pads are not sufficient.

Yep here you go:
Header/test pipe
Intake
exhaust
crank pulley
cam gears
and on down the list. No need for new ECU with just mild bolt ons.

My first mod was a CAI but in retrospect I'd say;

JDM Header with HF cat! I went with the Spoon 4-2-1 and Carsound cat and felt good results but, there are a number of good Header choices: JDM OEM, Hytech, Spoon, Mugen, and I also hear good stuff about SMS products. Also to consider is weather you want to do a HF cat, JDM/OEM Or a testpipe.

There are +'s and -'s to every setup , you need to just gather as much information that you can and make an educated decision.

Good luck,

A.

PS my dyno will be posted soon "in 2 weeks."

First mod, Track Event! Then you will realize you don't need to do anything to the car!

I agree with George. Unless you are an experienced racer/autocrosser, I'd recommend a season of autocrossing/track events.

Use the money on a driver's school.

I second that...I have yet to get a speeding ticket since the purchase of my radar detector (knock on wood).

I highly recommend one with the Pheonix Yellow R, but if you have a FBP or NBP R then a radar detector is overkill. No one notices you with a black car..

Oh yeah, for your first mod, I'd do the intake or just go to autox for a year

I say the best mod you can ever do is to put in a lightweight flywheel!!!!!! IMO the first mod you should do. Also the only mod you'll really feel a difference with.

Comptech Drop In Filter or Icebox, and then a JDM ITR 4-1 or Spoon Header with High flow cat.

ABout $450 for the Toda flywheel and Install is 250-300, I would say do the clutch and flywheel at the same time to save money on install costs

I totally agree with that....if you're gonna be going faster, you want to be able to stop just as quick!! While you're @ it, you should replace your brake fluid with a higher quality one.

Then get yourself some driver training and head to the race track!! That will really demonstrate what the ITR can do and highlight why the 'R' stands for Racing.

I have EBC 'Green Stuff' fitted to my ITR (with Castrol SRF brake fluid) and they are fantastic, from cold and have never faded on me....even after doing 15 straight laps on a race circuit (braking from 175km/h @ the end of the main straight!).

Checkout the following related links -
http://www.ebc-brakes.com/autopads.htm
http://www.castrol.com.au/castrol_00...ducts_set.html

I'm looking @ installing the Mugen: N1-ECU (with the uprated Valve Springs), Twin-loop Exhaust and maybe the 4-2-1 Exhaust Manifold as well (plus some other smaller components)....anyone have any comments on them (see the below link)?

i agree with the suggestion about upgrading the driver..is a very humbling expirience when your mugenR is pounced by nearly stock R's..hahahaha..
