Default B16 intake?

I have a b16 in my 91 crx and I have a cheap ebay CAI with a K&N filter. The piping on it is really small and I was wondering if I would see any gains by moveing my battery to the back and getting a AEM CAI for a 99-00 Civic SI?
thanks
Matt

You do know if you move the battery to the back you will have to have an exturnal cut off switch that kills all power to the car.(if you take it to the track)

Isn't the AEM piping smaller than most other intakes anyway? 2.5" or so.

so how did you get it to fit around the battery?
Could you post a pic?
What size piping does AEM use?
thanks

OK, First of all YES you can have both the battery and a CAI or a short ram in the engine bay together. I would highly recommend that you put the battery in the back.

The reason why is because the piping of the intake would hit the POS. terminal and create and POS. charge from the battery to the intake. This is not good. You can always put some type of rubber between the two but that is IMO, ugly.

The AEM cold air is fine, It has good response and I think picked up some HP but not much. I also have tried a short ram and personally I like the short ram a hell of allot better then the CAI. Now I did run ducting up to the short ram so I have ram air going to the filter.

The short ram has more throttle response and has more harmonics then the CAI. With the CAI it has too many bends. The short ram has 1 bend and it's only at a 45 degree angle.

These are just my experience's with both a short ram and a CAI. I am not telling you which one to buy. Also remember that a CAI sits really close to the ground and if this car is your daily driver then you might pick up some water through the filter and into the motor. As we all know, thats not good.

Check out (J's racing) short ram is by far my pick of the year.

One more thing, the 3" is better IMO then the 2.5", more air going into the plenum.

Good luck with your choice.

Will the AEM CAI for the Type R work on a swapped EF? The piping looks huge and I want to try it. Does anyone else have any experience with this?

yes it will work, only if you have the battery relocated.

^ EF_LSVtec on this board did it. Here is the link: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=566457

ITR: 3"
00 Si: 2.5"

As to which would show better gains, I would assume the ITR because it can flow more air...
