Default New motor built here. Type-R hybrid 2.0 liter, pretty decent HP 220+

we went with a JG head this time....not for comparative purposes...but because JG does good head porting like a few companies out there...

Anyway...

Its a standard CRV/ITR hybrid....but this one is particularly stronger than any we have done in the past. Each time we build one, its gets better beause we learna lot.

Here is what the motor has...
#1 It does not have 1 single Endyn part on it. happy day. anyway..
#2 It has some 84.5 MM Ross slugs in it.
#3 It has a ITR head...ported and polished, milled 30k. Full honda head gasket.
#4 JUN Type 3 cams.
#5 Stock, NOT MODIFIED, JDM 4-1 ITR header
#6 Iceman cold air intake (not the race)
#7 Cam Gears
#8 Apex V-AFC, no fuel regulator. 310 CC injectors.
#9 test Pipe.

What makes this thing so strong is that the tuning was only done for a brief time, about 12 passes ONLY after break in. And also...
The compression numbers are nowhere near the other motors we had over 230. Also, the header is a NON-modified JDM 4-1 ITR header....remember we made over 10 HP at the wheels more with the aftermarket pieces we tested? And another thing is, we didn't use the Iceman Race intake or the Hondata system for tuning.

This is one strong motor. And it has already claimed it first victim...a Lamborgini Diablo. Which does not surprise me. In a 1992-1995 hatch, this motor will get you about 11.8 or so at sea level @ about 114.

Imagine if we got a Hi-Tech Header for it, an Iceman Race intake, and took 1 layer of the head gasket away with some VP C-12 gas. I bet it would make around 240. Crazy.

Its been a while since I put up a newly built motor. I apoligize to all the ITR owners on here that don't consider this "enough" ITR to post here...

But I am saying that you ITR owners should get a same year or later CRV block, sell your legit ITR block, and build a fully built 2.0 liter and pay almost nothing and have 20 more HP and about 15 more lbs of torque.

Of course this voids all your warranties. But if you have a fulltime job and you have the budget, this is a good option, and its legal.

Good lord that is a lot of torque. What is the cost for something like this?

I forgot...it is a daily driver and runs on 91 octane...

Nice!

What ECU is it using? Does an ITR head require further p/p for this set up?

Mugen ECU. Yes, ITR head needs further P&P done professionally.

Wait a minute, let me get this straight....

This motor is running the, as Dan (God) would refer to it, the "worthless" Mugen ECU? The ECU that *hampers* hp rather than increase it? Ok, enough of the trash-talking

Those numbers are impressive. However, what is your experience with these longer stroke/radically-tuned engines and their reliability at high RPM for long durations -- as in road racing, not drag racing? I ask you because while I would love an additional 20hp, I have witnessed the problems that fellow road-racers have experienced, which have resulted in both overheating and ultimately blowing the motor.

I would like to know the same thing, Andy?

Impressive, though!

how much is this motor worth? hate to find out i could have bought an m3 after finishing the buildup, impressive dyno numbers or not

good work Jeff, I got a couple questions:

What compression ratio are those pistons?

Is this the same motor that you posted pics on a couple weeks ago?

What's with all the peaks and valleys on the torque from 45-6k rpm?
There is a noticeable drop in horsepower at the same rpms can you explain that.? That's useful midrange power that is lost there.

Default ECU's/....

ECU arguments huh. I have no argument with my friend DAN.

Here is what I have to say about ECU's.

Skunk2, Mugen, XS, SPoon, Whatever all work. You just have to tune the car to that particular ECU. You cant tune a car to a SKunk 2 brain, and then plug in a Mugen brain, watch it lose 10 HP and find that the SKunk 2 program kicks the mugens ***. You can NEVER just swap ECU's to compare them...you have to FULLY tune the car to each ECU.

But honestly, if I would have had Hondata, that motor would be looking like 230 right now with that stock JDM 4-1 header on there.

The main reasons you get an aftermarket ECU is:
#1 To raise the Rev limiter
#2 Change the VTEC point to something more desireable..

Because you can tune the fuel effectively with an Apex V-AFC, and timing is not that much different in all of these programs...

I hope I answered people's questions on ECU's.

Also, for road racing, I am no expert, but I have common sense...the more HP you can make at a lower RPM, the better right? So I would think that CAMS are one of the biggest factors...

Look at this graph....
the red line, with the more peak HP that makes more power after like...8250 RPM is going to win the drag race most likely because its pulling all the way hard til 9700 RPM. Its going to pull away in all the gears....but for road racing...I dont see that motor lasting at 9,000 RPM with that piston speed sustained....so you want a motor like the BLUE LINE...that makes its peak WAY earlier and have a huge % more HP at say, 6k RPM...important for road racing...

Type-R cams would be excellent choices for road racing on a B20 VTEC, because your peak HP would be around 8k. And you could sustain RPM's between 6 and 8k for a good period of time, VS 8-9700k with JUN 3's.

Or look at this motor...probably the best road racing graph I have seen built ever...to my knowledge...

Now that is one bad *** road racing monster. I would think...I am not a road racing engine builder...it just makes sense.

Jeff,
Thanks for the compliments.. I believe I spoke with you a few months back about the Leading Edge Lubricants. Don't know if you remember me.

Anyways, we have a B20/VTEC motor that getting broken in as we speak. running around 12.8:1cr - fully built.

I'll have dyno results shortly as well. We can compare. The setups are very similar. However ours will be using Hondata.

I think Jeff means that he is using a Mugen chipped Honda ECU, not an actual Mugen ECU right Jeff? At least that how I see it as I know what the Mugen ECU would not like a setup like that. Very impressive Jeff. I like it!

Why would either perform differently? If they are both running the same program shouldn't the performance be the same?
