dealerships suck! - can anyone here assist me with my coolant leak?
do dealerships not diagnose problems before they start replacing stuff anymore?!?the dealership replaced two of my coolant hoses but it is still leaking, over by the belts, even when the car is not on, and then pours out faster when it is on. what is over there to check? water pump? are there radiator hoses over there, and where? HOW COULD I DIAGNOSE WHETHER OR NOT MY RADIATOR IS CLOGGED AS OPPOSED TO JUST MINDLESSLY REPLACING HOSES? coolant is dripping off my driver's side cv but i cant figure out from where. there is not a crack in my radiator or the overflow tank. its a 92 gsr if that helps.
and if you live in charlotte, nc - stay away from hendrick acura. i have had several other problems with them. enjoy your thanksgiving, guys.

Coolant is leaking over by the belts?? What belt(s)?.. Timing?
You said it's leaking onto the driver's side CV boot. Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't the Water Pump located above that?..

correct!..... that sounds like the right area to me!
not good!!

Dealership mechanics are stupid sometimes. I brought my disassembled stock shock\springs in to get put back together because I didn't have a spring compressor. I didn't put all of the stuff on there in the right order before I brought it there because I figured they would take it apart and make sure first. But no, they just compressed the spring and threw on the top hat and nut and gave it to me. lazy bastards
It's hard to say if it's the gasket or the pump itself. PROBABLY the pump though. If you're going to take all that stuff apart you might as well replace everything though:
1) Water pump (with gasket)
2) Timing Belt
3) Timing Belt Tensioner
Also be sure to inspect your cam / crank seals and replace them if they are leaking.

where are those seals exactly at? could they also be a cause? does the water pump leak even when the car is not on, because it is dripping very slowly when off, and then fluid is all over the ground if i let it sit for a few minutes while on.
i know it isnt because of anything with the radiator, but are there any hoses that contain coolant over on the drivers side, right around all the belts?

If the gasket on the water pump is bad it can leak from the water pump when the car is not running.. Look behind your motor where the head meets the block on the driver side of the car next to the timimg belt. See you if notice and fluid sitting or leaking from that area. If so it maybe your water pump.
If not look around you radiator very carefully for a small crack where the coolant could be blowing all over under the driverside of the car where your driving too..

the radiator is perfect, not an issue. i havent drove this car in over a week, so that isn't it, but it is still very slowly dripping and running down the driver's side cv joint...i didn't know if the water pump could perpetually drip like this. and it's $50 that i dont want to spend if there is another possibility for my coolant leak.
Then it must be the Water pump for sure.. Look at the water pump closer to see. The timing belt goes right around it. On the driver side of your car look down and the gear closest to the firewall is the water pump..
The top right gear towards the right is your water pump, But it going to be behind a plastic cover.. Heres a link to show you the gear.

the water pump is deigned to leak out a hole when it gets worn.
Bad water pumps also do not indicate failure by making noise.
There are NO hoses to leak on that side of the motor. If its leaking on the INSIDE CV boot (near the intermediate shaft), it could be the seal on the OUTLET of the Water pump. Its a long metal tube that runs across the back of the block over to the thermostat. All that seals that pipe in there is a rubber gasket, although I have yet to see one fail.
A water pump may be $50, but the labor is alot more, unless you do the work.

Dude i had the same problem with my teg....mine ended up having a old cracked "O-ring" its the rubber seal thing between the water pump and the bottom of the motor. I also got all new belts, and a new water pump for a little over 500 bucks
go to your local auto parts store and rent a pressure tester. pump that up to like 20 psi and watch the water fly out. That will show you where the leak is.
ok - it was the water pump. we just replaced it, no leaks, very happy. thanks guys for your imput. although now my thermostat is conveniently screwed up and it is overcooling like crazy. but that will be much easier and less time consuming than the water pump.
