Well, it comes down to this. I've got 2 blocks.

D16z6 100k
D16y7 40k

I'm going to be using a nu-forms block-gaurd, and endyne block pins to support the cyl. walls for boost (10-12 psi daily, 15 or 16 at the track). I dont think there is much difference in the two blocks, other than the engine code, and where the oil dipstick is located. ONLY going to be using the BLOCK for a complete Turbo re-build. head is also being re-built for turbo, and will be placed atop the winning block.

Opinions?

 

If it the shortblock is being rebuilt for turbo, it doesn't matter. Just go with the one that looks cleaner.

 

I'd get the y7 because of the lower miles. Same basic block.

 

Lower mile one I guess. I got a question though... why are you posting the block and using a blockguard? Just posting the block should be all you need.

 

wouldnt the z6 (with oil squirters) be better?

Z6 doesn't have oil squirters.

extra protection, got it cheap... wanting to boost 12 psi daily.

 

so a z6 and y7 block are the same??? with a full rebuild?

 

i cracked open the D16z6 about 15 min ago.. bunch of carbon and crap inside the block, oil is all fudged around... looks like ill be using the y7 block, since they are the same. Ill just use the z6 head on the y7 and have a Turbo mini-me

Posting is all the extra protection you need. Even though you got the block guard cheap why would you risk it? Sorry to preach, but I have heard and read so many bad things about them I would never think of putting one in my car. Even if installed properly and if your lucky enough not to have coling problems I still don't think they are worth it. Post the block, tune it well, and you should be fine.

 

I don't have any bad things to say about a block guard.

 

Been boosting 15psi for the past 5 years on stock sleeves and block guard with no problems. Boosted 19psi mostly the entire summer, no problems. Boosted 20-22 at the track, no problems. WG hose unpluged, boost went to 25-28psi, still no problems. Compression read 190 on all 4 cylinders.

My old block overheated really bad with a block gaurd. Although mine wasnt that newer deisgns like that one you have. Mine had small holes drilled in it and it was solid from cyl to block. It overheated easy in hot weather.

The D16y7 has diffrent pistons don't they? If you put the vtec head on the Y7, it wil yeild a high compression ratio which causes detonation.

Never mind, your going to rebuild the block with internals and others right.

I've never had an overheating problem and the weather here is hot all the time in Tampa.

 

i think ill use the supra piston, B16 rod combo that turbo panda offers.... so yea.. this autta be interesting
