from what i have heard, if u modify ur car for performance, ex: turbo/nos. then the insurance will drop u. (thats what i've heard) as far as a bigger/different engine... not really sure

i would just save all ur receipts.

thats what i do. but if something happens and u have alot of stuff on ur car.. its hard to get compensated for every penny...

my frends car got stolen and stripped, found a month later, totally f*cked!!!!!!.. it took forever to get everything settled, and he still didnt get all back what he had put into it...

So just incase you have a 92 CX hatchback with an ITR motor and buttloads of mods, you'd get money for your mods too, instead of just 500 bucks for a stock CX.

My insurance company said that they would insure a swapped and modded car, but I'm not sure how much more it would cost. I don't know what that price is because I don't want them to get the impression that I already "have" these so-called modifications done. They said that anything that is bolted/mounted into the factory location regardless of the type is covered and then misc. things are as well. If something happens, I do have all receipts and I would obviously buy the car back if most of it were salvageable.

I need to look into this too. I'm thinking of switching my insurance provider anyway. I'll just get a new quote with my swap and see what they say.

I would suggest getting any kind of insurance on the motor as possible. I have a 92 CX hatchback with a GSR in it. about a month ago my car was broken into and my CD player, leather GSR seats, and all my gages were stolen out of the car. When I took my car to the shop to have the seats, dashboard, and egnition replaced, after all that was done the shop boys decided to take my car for a joy ride and blew my motor. Bad stuff happens if you love you car take care of it in every way possible. You don't want to end up in a sticky situation like me. It sucks big time and now I have to take the place to court. I may not get any money. But good luck with your car and whatnot!

I had my 93 Cx with B18C1 insured for $9000.

I did all the work myself. I simply gave my insurance company a reciept listing all I had done to the car, plus my "labor" charges to install everything.

They asked no questions. They just slapped a $9000 full-coverage policy on it, and it only raised my premium like $20 every 6 months...

Insurance can insur other stuff like money put into engine, interior, exterior, electronics. But it goes up. Me I just kept it as is, last thing I need is spending more cash on insurance.

I never told my insurance anything about swapping a motor in my car...when I went to deep in a puddle about 2 years ago with a CAI and blew my GSR motor I had the insurance come out and they paid for the new GSR motor minus my $1000 deductable. So they didn't even really care about the swap in my case.

An old friend hydrolocked his celica in a nice deep puddle like you, his insurance co. replaced it for a brand new one installed @ the toyota dealer and promptly dropped him from their company , so you're pretty lucky.

actually hydrolocking your car is considered a natural event (as in the weathers fault) so insurance will cover it. Living in Florida I guess it happens a lot with our quick flash flooding on a summer day. The adjuster came out to my house when I had already taken the head off, looked at the huge hole the rod put through the block, went back to his car and came out with the estimate. So about 3 days later I got the check bought another GSR motor and installed it myself.

Had another friend do the same thing in his civic with the same exact response. Guy comes out, you tell them how you went through a big puddle, he looks around at the motor, goes to his car and comes back out with the estimate.

that's nice and all, but when my h22/3rd gen prelude gets ripped off, I don't want my insurance company giving me a check for $2k. I think I'm gonna go gather my receipts...
