Front upper balljoint -89 Accord
Does the whole upper control arm need replaced or can the balljoint be replaced by itself?
edit - I searched and found that it looks like its best to replace it. Can I get by with re-using the old control arm bushings?
Thanks.

You can't get just the balljoint, gotta buy the entire control arm with the balljoint already in it. Runs about $70-85 aftermarket, $100 something from Honda. I would definitely replace the bushings while it's out... they're cheap, might as well. Of course you could also switch out (assuming you're talking about the fronts) the Accord arms with 2nd gen Prelude (84-87) upper arms, which not only have seperate replacable balljoints, but will also give you camber adjustments to play with (such as if you lower your car). They're a nearly direct swap in.

Not unless you can figure out a way to get them out without destroying them.

Thanks.
I can get the control arm for $55 with a friend's discount at Autozone.
Is there anything special needed to press the bushings into the control arm. I'm talking about the control arm bushings.

They're not modified MacPherson strut design.... anything MacPherson modified or unmodified, still uses the top of the strut and a strut bearing as the upper pivot point for the steering knuckle (no upper control arm). Only way a modified MacPherson is different from an unmodified is that the spring isn't mounted in the strut. 3G Accords use SLA (short over long arm) suspension.... no struts involved.
Just wanted to clarify
