Default how to adjust timing on b18b1

i just bought an EK with b18b in it. the previous owner did not set the timing correctly and it feels very underpowered up to 4000 rpm. he said i need to reset the pulley to the middle mark? and put the distributer to the middle. well i can put the distributer back to middle but can someone tell me a step by step to adjusting the timing on this thing? please i need ur help. i know i have to take off the timing belt but i dunno where the factory spec is supposed to be. thanx

there are 4 marks on your pulley

there 1 by its elf and then 3 in line next to each other

the middle one is 16 degress
the outher is 18 and the inner is 14

with timing gun adjust your timing to factory 16 degrees. you shine your timing light with advance at 16 and you will see it line up with the middle mark

here is article on it

Wait - that sounds confusing...

If your timing light has an advance dial on it, then set it to 16 & look for the single mark off by itself. Not all timing lights have this advance dial feature.

If your light doesn't have that, or if you set it to zero; then look for the middle mark of the 3.

Don't forget to short the service connector or the ecu will try to correct the timing as you change it via the dist.
1. Short service connector under passenger side footwell with a paperclip or wire.
2. loosen the 3 mounting bolts for the dist.
3. hook up timing gun and start car
4. 16btdc is the middle mark of the 3, dist movement toward firewall is adv, away from fw is retard
5. tighten dist bolts, remove timing gun and service connector short.
