im in the market for a motor and id really like not to buy a stolen one because it seems everyone is stealing motors so how can i find out if the motor is stolen thanx

 

you can't! Engine numbers are BS and there is no real way to trace them.

 

That's not exactly true. You can run the vin # but there is no way of telling if that vin # is authentic or not unless it is stolen or non-existant.

 

If you buy a motor from a reputable engine importer/seller then chances are it's going to be legit. Just make sure to get a receipt and any paperwork that they can provide. If you are buying it from an individual, I would definitely get a signed written receipt. USDM motors have the VIN# on them and you could trace that but JDM motors are pretty much untraceable. Just remember a deal to good to be true if usually just that...
