Help: Black smoke!!!
ok guys in my ek civic i have 2000 b18c5 motor. Now when im at WOT ive noticed black smoke coming out of the exhaust. Ive been told it could be a bad cat (ihave the factory civic cat and exhaut w/ 96k miles on it) Or what else could it be?? let me know asap guys
how would i go about correcting the prob, also is runnin a lil rich good, im sure it cant be good if im putting out black smoke though.
but anyway im sure its not ideal to be blowing out smoke so how can i fix the prob

ok well your saying an eninge managment system is the only way to correct it. Ok well if that is, i dont have the funds for that ASAP. someone said it was burning oil but it def doesnt smell that way and if that was the case it would be bluish white smoke correct? So anyway wil it running rioch and blowing out some black smoke be nessecarly harmful??

Not really. Might foul a few plugs out, but that's unlikely and a cheap fix.

The black smoke is most likely unburnt fuel. The unburnt fuel results in carbon build up on the plugs..which inturn *fouls* them, basically they don't spark ideally.
the majority of hondas run rich to prevent pre-detonation/ignition..
It's not ideal, but its alot safer for your motor this way. Running lean is much worse. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

jittery idle? but the rpm's stay constant?
if the rps are constant, it isn't your idle....do you just mean @idle certain things in your car vibrate? ie shiftknob, steering wheel etc?
you have b18c5 in a civic correct?

If your rpms stay constant, it is most likely more of a mount/stabilizing issue than plugs, etc. (anyone else w/more expertise than me please chime in)
FYI in my 97 ITR the shift **** does *buzz* a bit..same thing in my Prelude, yet not as noticeable.
as long as you aren't hearing any audible/visual(ie CEL) warning signs, and you don't notice any hesitation in the motor it is probobly running fine.
keep in mind you a driving a swapped honda, not BMW
a few vibrations are a normal thing.

Possibly the mounts?? or is somein such as the plugs cauing this</TD></TR></TABLE>
Motors vibrate. It's ok. Those pistons are moving at insane speeds. If you have aftermarket mounts, then you will really feel the motor in the car. It's normal. If you are worried about fouled plugs, pull them for an inspection. If they are solid black then they are fouled or about to be. If they are a light tan color, then you're fine.
