Well I was driving home tonight and in forth gear I stomped on the gas and hear this rattle (only under vtec) coming from what seems to be my shifter? I went under the car to see if its a loose heat sheild but its not. What do you thing it is?

 

just check your heatshields. thread lock is your friend.

 

Happen at a particular rpm by any chance? Or rpm range? Or throttle position?

More information you provide, the more help I can give.

 

Shifter bushings! Did you recently switch to ES shifter bushings or some other? I only got the vibrations you're describing after switching to those.

 

yea after i put my shifter bushings in my shifter rattles in high rpms

 

i'm having the same issue and i dont think it's my heat shield either. it happens at certain throttle positions..regardless of RPMs

 

remove all of your exhaust tunnel heatshields.

then check your shifter...make sure the washers and bushings are all in place.

 

At one point I had an intermittent, RPM-related rattle that turned out to be a missing bolt where the cat attaches to the header.

 

It only happens under vtec (5800rpm), well, maybe it happens in vtec also but heck its too loud to hear anything when im in vtec . It is usually at 3rd or 4th gear, say I am crusing at 3500 rpm and stomp on the gas in 4th gear it would start to rattle noticably from what seems as the shifter but it feels just fine. I checked all the heat shields and the shifter brushings (which i put back to stock after the es shifter brushings) and everything seems tight. Could the rattle be coming from my tranny then transelated to the shifter?

 

I have the same problem from 3K to 3.5K I thought it was either the exhaust or heat shields. I tightened up the exhaust and it helped a little but I think it's the short throw shifter. I'm using Skunk 2 and didn't have a problem till I changed shifters

Could it be your shifter hitting the exhaust causing that rattling sound?

 

I have exactly the same problem. Took it to the dealer and the mechanic told me it was typical of the R and said that he thinks it was coming from the radiator vibrating against its retainers. He added some extra rubber washers there to dampen the sound - and it turned out to do nothing for the rattle. So I'm still annoyed as much as you are and searching for a solution.

 

It's your heatshield...a lot of DC2's have this problem.

 

have you removed your heatshields yet?

 

i still have no luck w/my rattles. it seems to be coming from the block... like above the 90 deg bend of the header and below the 4 ports of the header... only happens on partial throttle
