Which idle problem are you referring to? Mine has a problem where if you rev it just an eensy little bit it'll drop the rpms down to about 200-500, and if the car's cold it'll stall...

I think Spaceball was recommending you replace the IACV with a new '90-'91 CRX Si unit from Honda for about $150. I haven't verified this with anyone that's tried it, however.

What problems are you talking about? I did my swap and had no problems at all. Just make sure all your vacuum lines are connected and your timing is set right.

oh that would be helpful if i was more specific huh? anyways...for mine...at idle it fluctuates between 500-900, sometimes even higher...someone said before that it could be fuel pump?? but i don't know...<shrug> i'm lost...where can i find the correct way to connect the vaccuum lines?

I'll see if I can find that vacuum wiring diagram... here it is:

Have you checked your coolant levels lately? Low coolant can do that without causing the car to overheat... if your fuel pump was dying, you'd notice it during daily driving. Under throttle the car would bog badly. Is your idle fluctuation continual?

hey raene thanx for the diagram...i'll be sure to check it. How do i check the coolant level...even though i'm pretty sure that its not that...but i'll check it anyways.... oh yea...deffinately the fluctuating idle is continuous...every time i sit at a lite it fluctuates and you can really feel it throughout the whole car...it does bog slightly at low rpms....very seldom tho...but it does

oh and where did you find the second picture of the vacuum diagram??

Your irregular idle could be caused by two things.
The IACV could be dirty inside and it could be malfunctioning.
you could try removing it and spraying the inside with parts cleaner. let it soak and then rinse it again with more parts cleaner. If you have a compressor use compressed air to blow the inside dry.
That fix might work, but it's not a permanent fix.
Another reason is a bad or loose TP sensor.
Vacuum does not have anyhting to do with idle control on the B16.

worst case scenario...how much does it cost to replace those parts?

I found the second vacuum diagram pic off an awesome site called B16A Net or something... I really can't remember. It was truly a kick-*** site, and I wish I could give the guy his due, but I can't for the life of me find it again.

P.S. Doesn't sound like a coolant problem... low coolant will cause idle to stick at 1000-1250 rpm. But if you want to check, you can top up your coolant reservoir, or just pop your radiator cap and have a look inside to make sure it's full to the brim. A continuous fluctuating idle like that is usually caused by a loose or leaky vacuum hose. Try what Spaceball suggested .

i noticed something rather odd on my friends 85~ civic and 91 miata.
if you move the steering wheel (column and all) up or down it will fluctuate
the idle. then again, if you turned all the accesories on the civic it would stall.
i believe my integra did that as well.

Yes, low on coolant will allow air to get trapped inside the system, and throw the sensors off. The idle will start revving up and down. This is happened to me after dealing with the cooling system issues.

After you pull the cap off (while it's cold), and open the bleed valve. Let it idle for awhile, until the thermastat opens, and the cooling fan(s) kick on a few times, problem is gone. This has taken up to 20+ minutes sometimes....

I have, along with others have suggested this to peeps on othe forums. They do it, and the their problem is gone. Otherwise why would it stop doing it then?

When I had this problem i changed the Fast Idle Thermo Valve. It sit's right under the Throttle body. You have to remove the Throttle body, when u turn your TB over there you will find it. The only problem is you have to buy the whole thermo unit. If you open the valve you can tell if it's sticking or not b/c it has a spring back motion.
