Temporary EMS
OK here's my dilema...i have built my car for high boost...(benson sleeves, forged pistons and rods), i have the ignition system, the fuel system to back up 15+psi, i just don't hvae the money right now for a standalone EMS. ...p.s. im running RC440 injectors.
What i need to figure out is a temporary solution to this. i asked a few of my friends and they're just teling me to get a 12:1 vortech FMU. I'm not too farmiliar with these so i decided to post on here. What would you all do if it were your car?
umm FYI the cars a 98 civic EX.

Im probably going to get shot for saying this, but I say run the FMU for TEMPORARY.
Im saying, turn the boost down to around 5 psi, turn the idle fuel pressure down to whatever you can idle your 440s at(me, it was 25psi w/450s), and retard your timing. I ran for damn near two years on 450s w/12:1 FMU, 25 psi Base fuel pressure, and 12 psi of boost. The engine quit because the oil pump failed, still had 185 across the board when I checked it before it quit.
BUT, you should definately be saving up for something. Youre in VA, so you have Hondata t00ners left and right. Get Hondata

Since you already have 440cc injectors, all you need to have is the SMC and your set up to 10-11psi of boost.

Until you have money for a standalone.

As in hook up a VAFC and just adjust the a/f there at 5psi until i get hondata...then just sell it? I was thinking that, i am not knowledgable about VAFCs...it control the injectors?

one of my friends just suggested that (since this kit is going on a new motor) that i keep my stock injectors on, run a 12:1 FMU, keep it at 5lbs of boost while i save up for EMS, and break in the motor...
would that be safe? good? views/opinions?

i dont know if you'll get a enough fuel. i would get a used vafc or safc ($150) and just set it up to run your injectors at -35% or what ever your motor needs (borow a wideband or dyno tune it). that will be safe for you. with the hack you could probally run more than 5 psi as well.

I agree, since you already have 440s it will work perfect for the same price or less than a fmu and it will run way better.

the smc is the cheapest way to make it with with what you got
but if you can buy a vafc you can afford hondata s100
only bad thing is no one recommend you ride around on the base map and tuning is going to be 350-500bucks

I just checked out that SMC...it seems like its just the solution for what i need. How would i go about altering my injectors to the right a/f ratio? (i'm very new to turbo and tuning and stuff, so dont hate)...would i just get a a/f gauge and just keep dropping the fuel my injectors are putting out until i reached my desired ratio?
