Default Your transmission advice needed

I have a 2001 itr tranny. Everything is good except that the 3rd gear syncro is is bad, it's difficult to shift into 3rd above 8K.

Option # 1 Try GM synromesh to see if it solves the problem.

Option # 2 I have another 1997 JDM itr tranny that I have not swapped in yet that I bought from RT motorsports. Tranny is very clean and supposedly it doesn't grind at all.

Your advice is appreciated. Thanks

Swap in the spare-then rebuild the tranny with the synchro problem.

probaly should try the gm fluid first to see if it helps, if not, swap trannies.

ya, i regret i didn't try the GM syncromesh. I know I should have. But since I had the other tranny lying around, I'm just gonna give it a shot.

The only the thing that I was worried about is that the GM syncromesh is only a temporary fix for the problem, I would still have to replace the 3rd gear syncro
later on. Is that correct?

try the GM sychromesh, if that doesnt work, rebuild tranny (not that hard if you are mechanically inclined). I wouldnt put the 97 JDM one in

you are basically putting a package on crap if you do that....ie....covering up a problem that will only get worse with time!

either fix it or shift before 8k when going into third....and i know that kills you ITR guys cause of your madskillz 3rd gEaR VTEchK yO

I had the same issue with second gear on my R. Wouldn't go into 2nd at high RPM. I dropped the tranny myself and a friend did the labor on the tranny for $100. Then I had to buy $650 worth of parts. I would fix the tranny as soon as possible to prevent any more damage. Transmission parts aren't cheap.

Changing the fluid will only bandage the problem and buy you some more time. It will NOT solve the problem and the grind WILL return. It isn't a miracle solution.

With that said, do what you think you should and what your wallet lets you do. Just put some money aside for the future when the grind returns.
