Perceptions of ITR owners..
as viewed through the eyes of people who do not own one. Lately I have just been feeling really looked down upon by the elder generation. This isn't exactly meant to start a war, and I'm not flaming those who might be older then myself... just the general populous.
Two instances... I'm outside taking the interior out of the car in the midst of installing my alarm / wiring my new radio, etc.. and a few people drive by and I feel like they are giving me the "*******" look, either just because the color of the car, or me and the car both.
Then I was fillin her up at the gas station, and an older woman walk by me and say "you people just think you run the world dont you?" and storm off. Now, I'll consider I dont remember if I flew by anyone on the ride in, but I think I was driving at a pretty normal pace w/ the rest of the cars. Incidentally, this lady ended up working at the same place I do, and we ended up in a meeting together today in which I got to tell her she couldn't do what she wanted (through my firewall anyway.) :D
I guess I just needed to blow off some steam. Just tired of all these people passing judgement without knowing you... Anyone else run into this type of crap around your woods? Maybe its just a Delaware thing... I mean after all, "Hi. We're in Delaware."

must be a delaware thing, b/c I got a
from an older (early 40's) lady in a RAV4 couple weeks ago.
A grandmother in her 80's at a church said, "wow, your car is so bright!" and smiled.
2 old ladies (60's) at a Baskin Robbins parking lot asked me what kind of "sport car" it was b/c they really liked the look of it.
hrm...mebbe the "old" ladies in socal are nice ?

Its those damn Rice Boys that stereotype us as a bunch of "teenage ******** who think our cars are the fastest thing on 4 wheels". The rest of the automotive world seems to just see "Type-R" and look down on us because of that stereotype. I like to think as Type-R owners as some of the more serious enthusiasts in our hobby. Ive seen both side of this. Ive had people say things like what was said above. Then Ive had people like my dad even, who is Mr. Chevy Muscle himself say things like "AWESOME!!!" or "Damn that car is nice!" I personally think that true automotive enthusiast recognize the qualities in our car as we do theirs.
Don`t have an R but when I had a heavily modded boostin teg I always got compliments and the
on the freeway. Every once in a while somebody would say something stupid but I felt i was given respect 95% of the time.
Tooooooooootally different in an s2k. You are not stereotyped as a Fast n furious reject.

Get used to it, there will plenty more of nasty glances to come. Those dumbazz punk ricers give the regular respectable performance minded people a bad image.
hum.. that 'dirty look' never really happen to me.. maybe I drive so fast that they can only see a blur passed by..(J/K)...
but I have so many compliments with my Phoenix(That's how I call my baby)..
Take it easy and say :"F*** off to that lady"... funny though that she ended up at your meeting... If I were you, that must be a real fun experience for me..(and Suck Big time for her)...

And eye contact is always important.
I live in 'Delawhere', and haven't had that happen!?... But I have had an elderly lady tell me "what a pretty car" I had, once!
Must be a Wilmington thing!
(j/k)
BTW: Why did you change your user name on this board?

Philly_01_ITR_Driver, I know what you mean, especially about "Slower Delaware"
(but hey, we got some nice beaches)!... I've only seen two other black R's in DE; one's a punk from MD who works @ Audiojam, and the other is a cool dude with a Drag III turbo kit who races at Cecil County Drags. (He puts out some mean HP @ something like 14 psi!) I used to work at UD (I'm from Newark), and yeah, there are a lot of ricers in town; hang out on Main Street any weekend night and watch the parade drive by (well, once at least - local PD gives you a ticket if you "cruise" Main!)... Any (unique) mods on your R so I'll know you if I see you? (PA. plates might give it away!)

HAHA
I'm usually the one with a stern look, kinda like I'm about to beat you up. So I rarely get compliments or insults. But hey its just the way I carry myself. Id rather be feared than ridiculed.
Most ITR owners are just plain a$$holes, they think their ride is the shiznit. Just look at one while he's driving down the road or on the freeway, got that punk a$$ look on his face!! R's ain't sheeeet. No, I'm not kidding
it's not that great here. i've had some really bad experiences myself. this guy came up to me once in a parking lot and started yelling at me about "you bastards think u own the road with your japanese sports cars racing on the street" and started ranting about how someone in a honda cut him off in traffic racing with someone else. and then a few months back i was pulled over by a cop because they were stopping anything that was "white with a black hood" because they had someone in an integra try and run down a cop when he tried to pull him over.
and then there are the "fellow enthusiasts"... several years back with my old teg i was challenged by some punks in a slammed accord coupe at a stoplight and i didn't go for it after letting them go with all their bouncing off the rev limiter and peeling out at the light... further down the block they slow down until i eventually catch up, and the next thing i know they try to run me off the road.
nothing's happened to me for some time now so i've mellowed a bit, but back then i just wanted out of the import scene altogether

Given we get black, red, white and yellow ITR's here in Australia....I'd have to say that the owners of the YELLOW ones (nothing against US owners), are the biggest d*ckheads around and are most likely, to give other ITR owners a bad rep!
From what I've noticed - they are the type of person who likes to get noticed (the colour helps), have the most 'riceboy' accessories and are totally blind to other drivers (particularly when I've driven on the race track). Also, out of all the regular members of the 'Honda Sports Car Club', there are rarely any yellow ones attending club drives and when there has been, they've been the ones to cause problems (ie cutting others off & having generally poor driver skills).

I hate to start this, but I'm really curious: How much bad attention do you think we draw on ourselves because of our own attitudes and driving styles? Do you think in some cases people actually have a point? I do know ITR drivers who drive too fast on the street, and/or act like the daily commute is some kind of track event.
Unfortunately, for the 1 in 10 idiot ITR drivers....the whole perception of ITR owners (from the general public's point of view), is tarnished!
