A deep rapping sound that increases in intensity with engine speed.

It doesn't sound like anything, because your motor is toast

maybe even a:

*KACK* *KACK* *KACK* *KACK* *KACK* *KACK* *KACK* *KACK*

Pull the oil pan and feel the rod caps. If one so much as twitches (back and forth, up or down etc) when you touch it then you're f'ed. Rods are attatched to the crank SOLIDLY. 70 something ft lbs if I'm not mistaken (been a few months since I've assembled an H series, so forgive me for not knowing the exact number) If it moves, that's bad.

I went and looked at the car last night and its AT LEAST a rod. The sound was horrid. Also leaking tons of fluid so I think he might have a hole somewhere.

Its dead. I watched it run with my own 2 eyes....its toast.

If anyone knows of someone selling a H23A or JDM F22B shortblock, let me or the poor kid know.

uh heh.. uh oh. I have that sound... have had it for like 25,000 miles now. Assumed from everything I checked it was something with the exhaust cam, since using a scope (big old fat screwdriver) gives the indication it's a top end noise. Adjusted the valves to make sure, went away for a little... uh oh....

I have an H23 block with crank that I'd sell. It needs to be checked by a machine shop. It's been sitting here for a while. I may have a chance next week to have it checked for you if I can get the dr.s clearance to drive.
