Well my question is just how long will a timing belt last. My 96 lude is the s model, the sohc engine was teh sux so I replaced it with a jdm h22 and did the obd1 changeover. Shop said that they get engines that supposedly have 30k miles or less (ya right). The timing belt that went is oem so, im hoping at least, that its the original, I know there supposed to be replaced every 60k but how much longer than that will they go for? Just trying to estimate how many miles are really on my engine,

Are you saying that your timeing belt broke on the JDM motor?
Timeing belts are to be changed every 90K miles.

 

Timing belts are replaced at or by 90k, or WHENEVER your motor is OUT of the car.


If you bought a JDM motor, you should've changed the belt before even THINKING about install.

 

ouch 90k. Ya looking back on it I should have done that and a few other things, which I realized 3 months AFTER it went in and the water pump went (which was another perfect time to do the timeing belt) but just like you said in ur modifying manifesto, modifying cars is a trial and error learning experience. This is my first attempt at modifying a car beyond bolt ons so im learning alot as i go along. Things like what I should have done before the engine went into the car, oh well.
