Smoke coming from valve cover breather??????
K i just recently finished my 3rd ls/vtec about a month ago. But what ive noticed is i can see traces of smoke coming from the valve cover where the breather gos. But my car doesnt smoke from the exhaust, just the valve cover. My car runs great, just this smoke bothers me. I thought it was my rings, but than it should be smoking from my exhaust. So im thinking its my valve seals? Any ideas?
Had the exact same problem. After a while it's going to get worse and worse. When it got too bad, I had to run a tube from the breather hole to the bottom of the car because there was too much smoke and I was breathing in the fumes. In the end, my car began to shake so much that I just replaced the engine. I didn't get smoke from the exhaust either which was weird, but I saw little beads of oil on the rear of my car.

Make sure your PCV system is in good working order. If so, time for a leakdown test.

i got the same problem, can it be the piston rings? i was told that it is blowby which is oil passing the rings, burning up and getting stored in the valve cover...

It's to allow fresh air into the engine when the PCV valve is open.

The oil rings can still control oil while the compresion rings leak compresion. Leaking valve seals will cause burning oil. Is your PCV system working properly? Some fumes will get by the best rings, the PCV gets rid of them.

Well im using a 99 LS block and a Vtec head so their is no pcv system. Vtec motors have the pcv system in the block and a 99 LS motor has the pcv system in the head so now i dont have any pcv system.

Very interesting, no PCV valve huh? That doesn't sound good.
