Another daily quality vs track quality qs.
I just received my JIC full coilovers for my EP3 (2,630lbs), but instead of 9kg/10kg springs, they sent me 8kg/9kg springs by accident.
I called JIC and they offered to switch them if I send them the springs, but now Im on the fence about it, because I know the 8/9 setup will be more comfortable for my daily commute, and chances are I would be just fine autocrossing with the dampers dialed up to "full stiff" in the rear...not to mention the hassle of dismantling the things to get the springs off/on.
I auto-x 2-3 times a month and use the car for daily driving all the time, I might try to compete regionally someday, but thats as far as I'd care to go.
Any recommendations on what to do with these?

I'd insist that they send me new ones with a postage-paid return address slip.
It's not their fault that you installed them before looking at the spring rates, but I wouldn't go without them while waiting for them to correct their mistake.

Well I think your answer lies within that statement. Give er'!

That depends on whether its worth your hassle.
I would call them and demand they refund your shipping cost. Then run the springs... its only a 55lb/in difference.

Thing is, this is my first time to have aftermarket suspension, and I just cant predict
1.) if I would notice the difference of 55lb on the streets
2.) if I would notice the difference of 55lb on the auto-x track
I definitely dont want to put them on and then take them back off then put them back on again... thats just asking for a problem.
As for shipping, I only need to send them the 8s to change out for 10s, I can just move the 9s to the front, since they are the same height and diameter.

If this is your first aftermarket setup and you are new to autox/track, then you are unlikely to be able to feel the difference.

Can you swap springs by removing the lower cup and spring perch (I know it's possible on some models)? If so I would tell them to ship you the correct springs with a return label. Then when you get the new springs return the old ones in the same box. If they aren't willing to do that then just stick with what you got now.
Keep the 8's up front and make them send you some 10's for the rear. The motion ratio is so poor on the rear of that car that 10kg springs won't be a ride quality issue.
To be honest, you could get away with 12's in the rear and be fine. Start going over that and it will start to get brutal, but a lot of it is shock valving anyways...

Todd00, that's what I've decided to do. I just talked to JIC, and they're ok with it, even shipping the springs before they get my old ones. Thanks for the advice.
