E-MANAGE vs. HONDATA

Default E-MANAGE vs. HONDATA

I am building a b18b for boost and am wondering what system you guys perfer. I was gonna go with hondata but the local shop told me e-manage. They said that since hondata has changed their systems a lot, then that means there must have been problems with the old. I will most likely be running 550's with a goal of 300 whp. thanks

emanage is crap, i hate it. i dont really care for hondata either but given the choice of the 2 id deffinatly go with hondata

That ridiculous.. improvement on an older design doesn't neccessarily indicate the previous was flawed.

FWIW, I ran a 2B on my Civic and now have an S200B.. both were/are fantastic.

have you acutally used e-mange? i have done a search (here on H-T = 66 results, and i read EVERYONE of them)
from what i read it is a pretty good way to tune if you get all the extra harness. with all the harness it is still about the same price as hondata, for the odb2 guys.

the only problem i haave found with it is that no one really knows how tune it.

yes i have used it. we have attempted to tune 3 different cars. for obd1 cars it works ok, for obd2 cars its useless. the ecu sees what the e=manage does and coorects for it. usually in about 2-3 dyno pulls you cant even tell we have changed anything. on on particular car... a turbo s2000, it ran like 11:1 at idle, i leaned it out to 13.5-14:1 at idle, with in 45 sec the ecu corrected for the emanage changes and the afr at idle was right back at 11:1......

I don't understand your complaints about E-Manage.

Of course the S2000 you speak of was going to correct the fuel trims back into the ECU's traget range, that is the whole reason closed-loop fuel trims and corrections exist. There is no good reason to shoot for 11:1 at idle, why not let the ECU do it's job there?

The E-Manage is a MUCH better tol for tuning under boost (part throttle and WOT) than any piggyback, and it will work almost as well as a standalone for most mild street setups.

People are running very fast on just the hack, and the E-Manage is worlds better than that.

Now, I would say that the Hondata is better then the E-Manage, because it retains stock ECU functionability and cleanliness.

the ecu was keeping the idle at 11:1 not me, i was trying to lean it out. the s2000 had 440cc injectors. it ran like **** and there was nuthing i could do to fix it. hell even the 00civic we did was doing this. on obd1 cars it seemed pretty inconsistent to me. the afr would change from one run to the next and we wouldnt change anything.

can the e-manage system keep stock idle with bigger injectors? What advantages does the hondata have over emanage. i will only cost me 500 for the emanage with all the options. The hondata seems more costly with datatlogging and soforth. another thing i like about the emaage is how you can plug a boost controller into it. the hondata system doesnt seem to have aything like this. I want to be able to start at low boost and the click high boost in. The hondata can only have 1 fuel curve running at a time. Correct me but if im wrong. This is just with some minor research.

the emanage is limited on the size of the injectors it can run, i dont rember the exact numbers but 440-500cc is about all your gona run on a e-manage with a honda ecu made to run 240's

hondata is tuned for what ever boost the map sensor will read to. ie with a stock sensor hondata will run any boost up to 10.8psi. if you wana run 4 psi today and 10 tomm it will run fine as long as the tuner did their job. when you up the boost the ecu reads from a different part of the fuel map and ign maps.

The e-manage is a piggypack plain and simple. VERY similar to a VAFC.

Hondata allows you to RE-MAP a 'stock' ecu.


Go Hondata, if you want ZERO engine management limitations.
Find a tuner that can handle it a well, sound like your 'local'
shop isn't equipped to tune Hondata. (I can anyway)

Exactly... The E-manage is just one more step to go through before getting a real standalone setup, why waste your time and money on something you will most likely upgrade once you exceed its limited capabilities

Does anyone know what injector size the emanage can while maintaining a stock idle? What exactly makes the hondata be able to handle it better than the emanage?

honestly I had the emanage on my b16 with 440 injectors and I made 274 whp and 218ftlb of torque @ 13psi and if I would have ran the hondata I would have made more b/c the emanage was kinda difficult to work with. Honestly I was told that the biggest injector you can run on the emanage is a 550cc...when I get back from dinner I'll explain more...

car idled fine with 440's...

hondata is a piggyback as well , people wont admit it , but its not a true standalone..... it just uses a chip inside the ecu to alter signals instead of a box outside like emanage....
i have emanage and have no problem with it , i only have it because it came with my kit....... either one has its ups and downs..... but vac to boost transition with the emanage is flawless , hondata users have had some problems getting to boost without hesitation

Hondata. You can't even compare the two. Hondata is a lot more supperier.

Why pay aorund $500 for something that can only handle up to 550cc injectors. You know your gonna want more power sooner or later. I will be running hondata by spring, so I can't actually speak from personal experience, but ALOT of people make serious power with hondata.
