Default Walbro fuel pump installation...

anybody know how to install a walbro fuel pump into a crx? im going to need a bigger pump because im swapping in a jrsc'ed b18c into either a crx hf or si and that engine would definitely need more fuel.

one thing about walbro fuel pump installs...you have to drop the entire gas tank to install 'em
good luck with the install. oh yea....try to get a 190 lph or a 255 lph since you're boosting

get the 255 high flow or what ever the hell its called.

It is 100% straight forward. I would recommend putting some pentrate on the bolts that hold the gas tank straps (near the rear of the tank) and possibly consider buying new ones because they may get twisted too badly to reuse.

Jack up the car as high as possibe so that you can get under the tank. You'll need to remove the fill neck tube, the fuel lines, unplug the pump, etc. Avoid doing this with a full tank, and you will... without doubt... get some gas on you or on the floor, so do this outside if you can. Better to pollute the environment than to stink up your garage and cause a fire hazzard.

You put the filter on the pump using the pieces it comes with and make it look like your old pump (you'll see what I mean, it comes with a few pieces). You'll need to wire it up, but that is also really straight foreward. Personally I don't understand how it doesn't explode when you have to cut and reattach the wires in the tank?!? The first time I started mine, I leaned really far forward and cringed.

Also, replace the fuel pump fuse as they often blow after you put a walbro 255 in. I've heard of this happening a lot. It happened to me. I just put another same amp fuse in and it has been fine ever since.

Good luck.

EDIT: Also get some new crush washers FROM HONDA... Don't use the cheap brass napa ones, get the originals from Honda, and don't reuse because if it leaks, you don't want to have to drop that tank again just to put a washer in.

Hey I had a question for you or anyone else that might know.

When you say get new crush washers, you're talking bout the washers for the banjo fitting that goes above the fuel pump right?

I was looking at my Walbro kit and I see how everything fits together. I'm just unsure of 2 things. There is an extra ring that goes to I dont know what. And there are also two tiny washers with a curved center. Do these get used for the elctrical connections or something?

I have the wiring plug that comes with Walbro kit. From my understanding I just use my butt connectors and conect the Walbro harness to the stock harness, making sure to keep the correct polarity. Are there any other electrical modifications to be made besides cutting and crimping these two wires?

Does anybody know what that little ring and two tiny washers might be for?

Thanks

Just did my install about a month ago. Took me, my brother, and my dad about 2.5 hours to do with a lift. The only super crappy part is getting the tank off and breaking out old rusty *** bolts. It's about the only thing that makes me jealous of those damn EG owners.

Gas doesn't conduct electricity. Now if you somehow had a short in your tank that caused a spark, that could get interesting...

I had wondered the same thing too...there were all these wires (well, 2) just chillin' in the gas. Scared the **** out of me.

I was thinking about this too...isn't it possible to route the Walbro harness outside the fuel pump area using the stock harnesses hole. Then that way you can crimp the butt connectors outside the fuel tank instead.

I think that's what this one guy did in this other link. He just use fuel sealant putty to seal up the hole.

I wouldn't say "EASY"...have atleast another guy with you, preferably too. Dropping a tank can be akwards as hel.

Just did mine about a month ago also. Was pretty straightforward. My mechanic did the soldering while I was working on readying the replacement tank to put it in. IIRC we spliced out the old stock harness onto the wires coming from the walbro and just dropped on the strainer and put it back in. Can't really remember too much so don't hold me to that.

One thing about the 255 lph is that it gets noisy after driving a while. Thats my only complaint, besides that it runs fine.
