But it's easy to find a JDM H22A under 50K miles, why is that? Do all Japanese car owners just decide to pull thier engines around 50K?

for the most part... yes, they do.

They have strict inspection and emission control. It has a certain name that I always forget, and I can't remember the exact details, but someone here surely can tell you the specifics. Basically, cars with over XX,XXX miles can't handle the tests and regulations and they get taxed out the *** for having the mileage, the extra emissions etc. It's cheaper and easier to get a new motor, and sell the old one to us idiots over here in the United States.

But most of the time they still run great right? I mean most companies that sell JDM engines offer pretty decent break in warranties.

oh, there's nothing wrong with the motors. It's just the tax they have to pay if they keep them is retarded. It's cheaper for them to sell the old motor and buy a new one.

Plus, you have to think, Japan is a VERY small and VERY crowded island. There's only so much driving you can do.

The thing is....since they know they are goin to pull their engines you have to figure they dont take that great of care of them.

Now that I think about it, I would have paid a few hundred extra bucks for a JDM imported motor that had already been started and ran for a while just so I knew it was in perfect working condition. Also, the color of the parts under the valve cover is a good indicator. I was pleasently surprised that all my heads internals were like new looking.

that emissions tax thing is mainly to force japanese peeps to keep supporting the japanese car economy. They keep buying new, industry keeps moving.
