Why are USDM H22A's so hard to find?

for the most part... yes, they do.
They have strict inspection and emission control. It has a certain name that I always forget, and I can't remember the exact details, but someone here surely can tell you the specifics. Basically, cars with over XX,XXX miles can't handle the tests and regulations and they get taxed out the *** for having the mileage, the extra emissions etc. It's cheaper and easier to get a new motor, and sell the old one to us idiots over here in the United States.

oh, there's nothing wrong with the motors. It's just the tax they have to pay if they keep them is retarded. It's cheaper for them to sell the old motor and buy a new one.
Plus, you have to think, Japan is a VERY small and VERY crowded island. There's only so much driving you can do.

The thing is....since they know they are goin to pull their engines you have to figure they dont take that great of care of them.
Now that I think about it, I would have paid a few hundred extra bucks for a JDM imported motor that had already been started and ran for a while just so I knew it was in perfect working condition. Also, the color of the parts under the valve cover is a good indicator. I was pleasently surprised that all my heads internals were like new looking.
