Default Paint Question: What can I use instead of 3 stage for milano red

I'm repainting some parts on a milano red ek civic coupe I just bought, I got it all primed and prepped but i went to the paint store to get it, R-81-5, but the guy said for 1qrt of total coverage itd be almost $400 becuase its triple stage. Not only can I not afford this, I dont want to do triple stage. It'll look to new, and be too hard for a novice.

So my question is: What other options are there? Is there a paint code close to it? Im just doing bumpers, trunk, and one fender.

let me know all. Thanks

id just sand down the rest of the car and paint it a red that is somewhat the same color. it really wont be much more work. and you really wont notice the difference of the door jams and the engine bay.

It would be quite a bit more work, and would cost about the same. Any other ideas?

take it some where to get it done...

since you've already done the prep work it won't be as pricey...

and if you are not satisfied, they are obligated to fix it, free of charge...

I have sprayed base/clear milano red over an adhesion promoter for two mugen style lips. It comes out pretty damn close. I used Some mid grade tecbase color and the highend napa clear. I love how that red looks with fresh clear on it.

oh ya and it's pretty damn cheap except for the clear. Like 30 for a pint of color and the other stuff (reducers, hardeners and clear)is pretty cheap.

ive painted a few cars before and it really isnt that much more work to spray the whole exterior than to do just a few panels. youll need about 1 and a half quarts or less of paint and then reducer on top of that. then youll need clear and activator.

you could easily be under 400 to paint the whole car if you are doing it all yourself.

Do you mean to say that to sand the entire car instead of just 4 parts is about the same ammount of work? It took quite some time to sand each bumper even.

Isnt there any color close to milano red? I want to do it single stage so it doesnt look brand new

I tend to paint most of my stuff myself (and have painted several cars over my excessive years) but have to say that I agree with what DseriesDKilla is saying.

A good size body shop has the ability to mix up a small quanity of paint. Plus they already have all the hardeners and such that are required.

If you want to just spray one (or a couple) small items, you end up with all sorts of material that you just will not need all of what you are required to buy.

It is DSeriesBKilla...

And just to let you know, I paid $250 in paint, hardener, reducer, laquer thinner and clear coat to paint 2 front bumpers, a front lip, trunk lid and sideskirts and it still wasn't enough stuff. The hardener was like $40 for a liter and that was the smallest amount that they had and I only need a couple of ounces.

Your best bet is going to be to take it to a paint and body shop.

Let us know what you do.

yes that is what i mean. come on, i have sanded an entire car including the jams in a few hours. maybe 5-6 hours of actual work. you just have to do it. get in the zone and get it done. its really not that bad. but i just prefer doing things myself rather than paying someone else to do it.

good luck to you. i hope it turns out well

Yea its just that we dont want to spend the $$ on the paint for the whole car as itd basically be just as much as buying the 3 stage for milano red for the parts we need. We ended up getting 2qrts + hardener + thinner for $116, which isn't bad at all IMO.
