Default Is 1000 to much for an install?

A shop wants to charge me 1000 to put in a B16B into a 98 civic 4dr. He told me it was a flat rate to do the install, wireing, change a water pump, timing belt, and clutch. Is this a good deal?

Sounds quite steap to me. Take the old engine out and roll it in there, see how much that reduces the cost.

I havent' heard someone paying $1000 for an install..look around and compare prices. Make sure to ask about past experience in swaps, etc.

does t include the water pump, timing belt and clutch too? or is dat jus da labor?

i mean if they do a really good job, then i say it worth it. pay alittle more for a better job. "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!"
but i usually see people pay around $500=700 for labor though

seems like a pretty good price including parts and what type of clutch.

OEM type R, OEM water pump, OEM timing belt, thats a good deal

Yeah they do a good job plus they will give a warrenty on the labor. I'm also buying the engine from them and they gave me a good deal. As far as that 1000 is just for the labor of installing the clutch, timing belt, waterpump, and valveadjustment. Everyone i talked to says that you should do all of these before putting in a swap though i would like to wait on it so i could save money.

That's actually a rather high labor charge, but it all depends on your area and the shop's competition. For something like that, we charge anywhere from $400-$550 for dropping the motor in and no CELs, depending on the car model for wiring, and throwing on a new timing belt, clutch, water pump, seals, etc (provided to us by the customer) at no extra charge while the motor is still out. Depending on their history & credibility, and what type of swaps they've done in the past, you may want to keep looking around for a better price with somebody who has done similar swaps.

The shop is http://www.streetsports.com/Ph...e.htm they are based in Nicholasville in KY. I don't think that they have too much competetion. But i know that they have done a lot of swaps and they are geting a new shippment of engines from Japan.

I've seen shops around here do swaps for $400. If you want it done cheap, get yourself a helms manual, rent a engine hoist, and go at it. This board can help with install.

Do it yourself if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. You will save yourself $1000 and learn something that you can charge $500-1000 for.
