Timing belt/Water pump labor costs
I've already done a search on timing belts and pretty much got a lot of info on everything else I had questions on except for the average labor costs that shops around so cali charge for a timing belt/water pump install (for a 95gsr). So if anyone has gotten any good deals around the LA area can you post the labor costs and name of shop/location or a phone# if possible please. thanks

My shop usually does everything including parts for $500-600. This includes all associated seals and drive belts. Shop around for an honest mechanic, I would stay away from dealerships.

Here in Santa Monica they charge around $475-$600. I had my 94 ls done for $475 with a valve adjustment. The shop is called bvainc.net. Check them out online or call them up and ask for Manny.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Yeah guy timing belt and water pumps are cake. like a 1 hour job if you have a lift. if not then i dont know how long it will take but for what they charge its worth the time.

Hmmm, 1 hr is pushing it, but I guess it's possible. Air tools will help you out a whole lot as well. So if you're a do-it-your-selfer, you can just invest that $500 in tools.

Yup, if you do it enough, and have all the right tools, it's a 1 hour job. My mechanic who did it for me told me it takes him 45 min. to replace the timing belt & water pump on my 94gsr. Dam bastard though charge me 2 1/2 hour labor was was still cheap. I bought all parts OEM from ahmotor.com

Re: Timing belt/Water pump labor costs (Oki_Doki)
Thanks for the input fellas, I've thought about doing it myself but I don't have airtools and have never done a timing belt, I also don't have a lift. I don't have many friends who know more than how to change oil and simple stuff, none of them have ever tackled a timing belt or else I'd ask them to guide me through it. Oh well, now that I have an idea of how much it costs I'll know what to expect when I'm shopping around for prices. thanks again

Aslong as you have a shop manual, it's not as hard as you think. You just need a good set of sockets and wrenches. The only problem you might have is with the main pulley.

How does $250 cash (no tax) for the belt and pump install without parts sound?
$400 total including the OEM pump and belt.

Man, you guys are getting raped with these prices. My mechanic (when I'm too lazy to do it myself) charges me about 150 to 200 bucks. Then again, it's a two-man operation with a tiny garage in the ghetto and he my father's friend of 20+ years . Anyway, like previously mentioned, you should try to do it yourself. Trust me, just do it. The more you work on the car yourself the more you'll understand how she works.

If I had the time I would. I work 50-65 hours a week and barely have time to sleep and eat. So once again, is this deal alright? He quoted me at 3 hours labor for $250.

for me:
timing belt & water pump= $150
labor= DIY & 1 hour
saving= $300+
with the extra $300 bucks I've saved I bought a set of new tires
can't beat DIY

3 hours labor for $250 is high. That's almost $85 per hour which is dealership rate. Shop around, you could find cheaper. My mechanic charges me that for parts and labor.

I bring in my own parts and a local shop charge me $200, not very good work they spill coolant all over my hood. Dont even call me when they are done, etc.
You get to find a shop you are comfortable with and they will treat you better as they remember you

Yes I do agree that $85/hour is kind of high. Apprently, this is the lowest quote I've gotten so far out, with Acura wanting to charge $375 + tax (5 hrs labor) and my local shop wanting $300 + tax (4 hours). This latest quote I've gotten is from a honda tech who works out of his own garage.

call 323-465-1722 and ask for stacey. i've been going to him since i got my crx, both before and after my swap. their work is excellent, and is quite cheap compared to other prices i've seen. granted i've only been their for suspension issues and a valve adjustment ($55 for b16 adjustment w/ valvecover and sparkplug gaskets), i'm sure you'd be happy with his prices and service.
