has this happened to you? headstuds pulling out threads.....cont..
Well i think i might have an option now a guy told me about Keenserts he works for ARP and honda F1 Indy racing. He states that they could make a special ARP stud but price would be a big factor. So he also said i could use Keenserts which is what they use in the Indy cars b/c of the very high compression they run. Has anyone heard of this or used them need info please. I`ll be greatly appreciated thanks
you are in for some fun... let me tell ya! my friend has had an ongoing project... be bought a gsr block off of ebay, and all the threads for the headstuds were helicoiledand half of the helicoils were dead and stripped too, we have started the process of tourquing the head down about 5 times now only to find another one **** up and not work, so what we are ending up doing is making outr own timeserts which is a big bitch to do, we have access to a lathe which makes this possible. what we are having to to is drill the block, and tap it for I think its a 13/16ths bolt( I am pretty sure thats the wrong size so dont quote me on this.)
then we have to get that size bolt and aneal it to remove the hardening, wihich is manditory because the bolt you have to use only comes in a grade 5 hardness and you need it soft for the lathe to drill through it. then you drill and tap it. cut it to size, then you have to make a custom tool to screw it in. we used a giant screwdriver like piece of metal, and made it so it would thread in easy. I am pretty sure they are going to wirk after all they are a stronger material than the alluminum that the block is made of.
hope that sends you in the right direction and I hop it tells you that its not hopeless.

like in my other post I did essentially the same thing (custom inserts)
its really the only way to go when this happens, aluminum helicoils just don't cut it.
find a machine shop and talk to them, they are the people that can help you out.
