Default Spike in gas prices??

Thread on the corral had rumors of gas spiking to $5 a gallon this afternoon (Tulsa was mentioned). Others documented $0.20 increases in their areas... Just filled up, and gas was at the Labor Day level (ie inflated, but not that much - never went down after LD).

Thoughts? I'm sure it will go up some, pending the events of the next few weeks. Any increases in your area today?

per barrel NOT GAllon. There was a slight increase in oil prices this morning shortly after the incident in NY & DC. This increase is normal and what was expected according to our analysts.

Here Everybody is panicing at the gas station and there is about 20-30 cars lined up at gas station around town. Its reported in Columbus its up to $2.50 a gallon. Right now its kinda high normally at $1.49 for the cheap stuff $1.87 for 93 octane i use. But Gas companies will use any excuse for jacking up prices.

I doubt it's the gas companies at this early point, although they will certainly use the "increasing price of crude" as an excuse to jack prices. At this point, it's unscrupulous station owners that are artificially increasing the price. Bastids.

Ummm.. I never understood this. Why are gas prices going up when the gas was bought maybe a week ago. It's not like they just got the gas in this morning when all this happened. You know what I mean? Is that even leagl?

Yep, that happened here in Alabama. There were reports of some gas stations jacking the price up by like $3-$4. The gas stations looked like the gas stations back in the 70s when there was the oil crisis. Tons of cars were lined up to get gas before the prices went up. We had to have police direct traffic around the gas stations.

A few gas stations in my area raised prices up to 5-6 per gallon!!!! Though they reset the prices this morning to an inflated 2.50/gal. WTF. I will never go to one of these places and I hope that everyone boycott these stations. Maybe we can run the Aholes out of business

Update -- Those stations that spiked the gas prices to astronomical levels are now under criminal investigation!!!

I saw a bunch of people at the gas station last night filling up, it looked like a big party in the parking lot. I hople it doesn't go up more then a couple of cents.

In Michigan the Attorney General said"there is no reason for any gas hikes and wants to be notified of stations that are hiking prices so it can investigate indivual stations and prosecute for price gouging"

I can't believe how stupid people are. Every gas station in my area had about 15-20 cars backed up in long lines, this also made traffic really bad. What's funny is that people fall for this every time. Will anyone ever learn?

Same thing was said here in TN. There is NO gas shortage at this time according to oil companies and economists. So, if prices go up, it's the individual stations trying to bend you over.
