b16 wiring question

Default b16 wiring question

hi, i am trying to help my friend out a bit. he has a b16 engine it is a first gen engine i am not sure if it is obd0 or 1. he has 97 civic dx, what will we need to do to get this to run as far as wiring is concerned. what ecu will we need, if we need a new distributor what one should we get

umm, well I have a 1st gen b16a engine... I had to use an OBD 1 distributer, and a P28 ecu chipped for a DOHC engine.

If the B16 is a first gen it is OBD0. If you are putting it in a 97, the 97 is OBD2. I would suggest buying an OBD2 to OBD1 jumper harness and then buying a P30 or P28 ecu as mentioned above. You will have to switch the distributer and probably a few other things, but it will be worth it for tuning down the road. What tranny are you using? 88-91 is cable tranny and 92+ is hydraulic.
