Default It's Finally Coming Together: Project b18C5 Killa

I bought my eg with a b18a/ LS tranny swap a year and half ago. After 3 months of getting spanked by everything from GMC trucks to my bro's 91 Maxima, I had enough. I was inspired by the Best Motoring Videos "Legend of Type R" and "Roaring VTEC, Battles at 10,000 rpm". I decided to build a motor for my EG that would make a factory type r motor revving look like a small block ford. I will detail my build up. I am looking for a mid to low 12 sec n/a hatch that will handle and stop better than the bench mark, the Integra Type R. After owning both a n/a and a supercharged type r, I am convinced that the eg is the most perfect "chassis" Honda had made. My love for high revving Honda motors is what drives this projects.

I put the car up against the Type R because of all the arrogance that I got from R owners. When I had my R, I never really hung out with other R owners, only guys with civics. I really prefer the comraderie with other EG owners. This particular forum is one the best ones on Honda- Tech. EG owners seem to be more down to earth. My setup is a GE sleeved b16a with 84.5mm Endyn pistons, Eagle Rods, JG Victor X intake. I will post more pics and details as the car progresses. I sold my R to get my EG. I more about performance and less about the name of the car I drive. Those are Rota wheels 16 X 7.

Dont you lose alot of power down low with the Victor X manifold?? Thats usually just a FI mani. Why didnt you go with a Type R or Skunk2??

whats wrong with ur LS set up....it should already be a type R killer...

shouldnt u be running 14.5 or something with that LS setup???

have you ever timed ur hatch???

or being a type r killer do u just want to rev to 10k and own it through the twisties???

fastest truck i have ever seen was a ford f350 turbo diesel and he sed he ran a 15.0...but im thinking of big trucks...not GMC cyclones...or typhoons..or lightnings..

there was a recent thread about drag racing. the creator said he has never seen a stock lightning break into the 13's at the strip. a stock itr motor in a hatch will beat that.

the honda hatch back isn't the 'best chassis' for a setup like that...try thinking about the Honda Insight...fully stripped and gutted it weighs in at about 1,000 lbs...A LOT lighter than any CRX HF out there and night and day compared to any hatchback

stock do you mean stock tires and what not???

when lightnings first came out back in 99 i saw some roll in with slicks and hit 13's consistently...no plates so basically brand new..

carlsbad raceway...california..

he said he wants a car that will run low 12's AND handle and stop better than a type R.

I'd love to see an insight that can handle or stop.

uh....dude....it sounds like he wants a drag/race/daily driven car chassis. IF he changes the brakes, suspension...etc., on an insight, i'm sure it can be made to handle as good as any other honda hatchback out there. oh yea...with a B-series ITR motor, it shouldn't be a problem for him to break into the 12's.

i havent heard of very many people putting bseries motors into insights, or even ver many people owning insights. I think he has a pretty good start with his eg.

What cams are you going to be running? And what's the compression of those pistons. I'd suggest some larger cams like some skunk2 stage 2. Don't want you to be undercamming your engine with a high compression and small cams trying to back it up. Sounds like a good project though, keep us updated!

Define undercamming. I personally know a guy with a built b20//vtec that runs 12.6 to 1 rollerwaves and runs CTR cams. BTW, his car dynoed over 210 at the wheels and 155 ft lbs. So, dont be so worried about cams.

you should keep it to bolt-on at first, get a clutch and lightweight flywheel, good 2.5" header and exhaust, camgears with good tuning, maybe a hondata setup. good intake or itbs.

then if you have the motor making the most it can with stock internals and are still not happy with the performance, open it up.

you may find a b18c5 with bolt-ons is enough for your setup.

btw you really need to be spending alot on suspension, brakes, and chassis strengthening too... the civic platform is good but it needs to be completely rebuilt to make it a fast car. and tires are critical.
