im ANYTHING but an expert....but my friend had the same kinda problem w/ his rx7 t2......its could just be your engines automatic warmup system, or it could be a faulty temerature sensor or water pump....
does anyone know if it would be safe to drive back the 2 hours with it like this becousei work at a honda dealership but i doutn hwant my car overheating and leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere

You need to get the air out of the passageways in the manifold. did you properly bleed the system?
try unplugging the fast idle valve and see if your idle will drop.
I think it's okay for you to drive it to the dealer, once the car is warmed up the fast idle should drop... given that there is coolant in there.

i didnt blead anyhting there realy wasnt much left in the radiator when i took off the drain plug. i just put water in the radiator for now but i tryed sqeazing the hoses to help pump it threw the lines
Quick question regarding bleeding the system, how long is normal to let the car idle with the radiator cap off? I have a surging idle much like the topic creator, and I filled up the radiator and let it idle for 5 minutes with the cap off, but when I look at the stream of anti-freeze going by, it still is bubbling at the top.
Very frustrating, maybe I have a leak somewhere allowing air into the system...?

Do this. It's probably air in the cooling system. Bleed it...

you are not suppose to open the cap, the bleed valve is not the rad cap, it's located at the highest point in your cooling system, the cooling system is a pressureized unit, 1.1 bar of pressure that keep the boiling point down, way down.
