Default Need help, can't stop spending $

Anyway, I am just a little pumped about my new suspension set up and motor work. I ordered 400 lb front / 600 lb rear with konis all around. Rears are re-valved for spring rates. Car will be corner weighted when install happens. Big thanks to Chris at Redshift Motorsports for taking the time to talk to me a few times at length about my suspension and SM assault. I am daily driving my car still so this is what I wanted to do.

As far as the motor work, I won the Honda-Tech Super Challenge thing at Englishtown last March, prizes were Head work P/P and labor to do work. Also won Drive Shaft Shop Axles (Stage 2, good till 400 HP), tires and some other stuff. I figure while I'm there, mine as well get Toda A/B cams, Ferrera valvetrain, Toda cam gears, intake gasket, headgasket to give me more compression, PE timing belt, dyno tune and chip burn for Hondata... WTF, something for free convinced me to dump $3000 into a car I drive everyday to work.

All I need now is to spend another $2000 on 13 x 9 Panasports and some Hoosier. My wife is going to leave me for sure. My idea behind this is to become my own team. My company will be sponsoring me. Write off for end of year.

Thanks again to Chris at Redshift for taking the time and hooking me up.
Thanks to Dave at Headgames Motorworks for talking to me for a long time also, doing my headwork and for hoooking me up with valvetrain.
Thanks to Ralphy at DRT for time on the phone too, advice and hooking me up with Toda cams, cam gears, gaskets, redoing exhaust and tuning my car.

Well anyway Im pscyhed and Im drinking many in anticipation of December.

Aha, you are the one. I talked to Chris just yesterday about your set-up and the revalving. Good luck.

Hey Mike, I'm not sure how far down the road of getting those 13" wheels you are but here are some things to consider. I'm not sure 13s would be the route to go for an SM integra. Especially with the extra power you're going to be roasting those tires out on the course. I don't think (just my opinion of course) that adjusting the gearing through tire size is the best way to go about it since you could use an alternate final drive to the same effect under SM rules.

As for everything else? Congrats man. That car's becoming a monster these days!

I agree. All that power with 13x9's?

I've been trying to talk the DSP GSR guys into running a 14" or 15" wheel, and you'll be making more power than any SP GSR motor could put out.

Yes, Chris is having it done by KONI North America and he called to confirm that we agreed on the shock plan.

Matt/Todd: So what wheel size would be best for my setup. 15x7 with hoosier's would be best? I always assumed 13's because of what Ive seen and read online. No Type R's are in SM in my region to compare. All GSR's (you) I've seen run 13's with Hoosiers. All R's on Hoosier's are in different class.

CRXLEE: What do you think of my spring rate choices? Any suggestions?

Sounds like a good start to me especially since you will be daily driving too. I much prefer to see people start on the slightly conservative side and work their way up higher over time if it suits their style and needs than to jump in with a really big number and not know if issues are caused by this or other things. In the grand scheme, new and used race springs are plentiful and not too expensive compared to the rest of the car and this can save you from chasing your tail around trying to solve issues.

One of my new pet sayings is "Better to creep up to the edge of the cliff than take a running jump and wonder how far back the edge was".

Here's an idea:

Wrap your wallet in a copper coil. Attach one end of the coil to the positive end of a car battery. Now, this won't completely stop you from spending money - but you will have to be GOOD and sure that you want to spend the money.

I have 2 questions: will 13" wheels fit over ITR brakes? And are final drives legal in SM? I thought they were only allowed in the prepared classes.

If you don't think about how much money you've spent, it makes it easier to live with. After all...ignorance is bliss

I like to call it a race car in street car clothes. I'm making it a livable race car. I know I won't be winning at the Nationals unless I do some more things that wouldn't be wise if I were daily driving. Also need some more autox skillz to go along with HP. I just want to be a strong SM competitor locally (Philly Region).
