Default B18C5 or a B16B which one for a 1998 civic 4dr?

I was thinking of turboing my d16 with a 110xxx miles but with all the parts its going to cost me 3k then with labor almost 4k. I figured why not get a type r engine and start with better platform with less miles. Which one would you choose and why? Also do you know of a safe online place to buy one?

Also what do you think i could get for my complete d16y8 with a new timing belt, water pump, drive belts, dc 4-1 ceramic header, aem short ram, new 02 sensor, and runs like a champ.

I don't want to mess with internals. I just want a good platform and then stick on a turbo and be done. Though i was looking at a B18C1.

well guess what...if you want a turbo, youre going to have to beef up the internals if you want it to be reliable, plus at some point youre going to want to go faster...unless you dont mind worrying about blowing your engine up...i wish i had that type of loot

with a turbo it really doesmt matter. But if your keeping stock internals I would go ls non vtec or b16. for the money I have seen ls's stock internals in a hatch run high 12's with just a drag kit, injectors and an fmu. As for the b16 it has a better stroke to bore ratio. I was told by one of the best import engine builders in the world for the price and reliabillity a turbo b16 is the way to go. the b16 block is probablly the strongest stock block in the b series family. More webbing, less porus aluminum (i was told by javier gutierez himself) and a better stroke to bore. Just my 2 cents. So you probablly could get about equal results outa both engines but in my opinion the b16 is stronger. I dont know were that all came from, you didnt ask about a turbo. I am just turbo crazed, and my car has been in the paint shop for 3 months.

gee, that was an easy one! you can almost get an LS swap, turbo it, tune it and all for the price of just the (legit, yo!) B18C5 swap!

LS loves boost.... lower compression. plus ported LS race heads are easy to find and relatively cheap if you desire it in the future.

boost the b18c5 and walk all over the ls
Of course, winning the lottery is the key to doing this.

Why do ppl always talk about swapping in a b18c5 or b16b and then wanting to go boost? The b18c5 is a good candidate for all motor, but they're way overpriced. And since you want to go boost, I would either consider a b18b/c or b16a. b18b would be the cheapest candidate but those engines boost. Slap on a turbo and do some tuning and you'll be spanking cars left and right. I decided to go b18c in mine and I'm sticking to all motor for a while until I can fundraise some cash to buy a turbo kit. I knew I wouldn't be boosting right after I got the swap done. I would have gone with a b18b, but I got a deal on a b18c I couldn't let pass by. I think I have my heart set on a rev hard stage II, yum. It all depends on what kind of budget you're on. d16 would be good to boost, I was about to do it myself if I hadn't thrown a rod through the block. But that's the perfect reason for doinga swap! My friend's building a d16 now, gonna be quick, don't underestimate the D series!

between the two you posted C5. but if youre looking at boosting on a budget, look into this setup

sohc vtec (d15b jdm) with the lsd tranny, less then 900 from hmo then boost it that gives you 3400 ruffly to work with for boost ( those two together are the price of a ITR swap) and ive seen over 200whp from a boosted sohc vtec (the d15b) with no internals

maybe you should just not be a ***** and work on your car instead of paying someone to install you a turbo.

Between the 2, go with the ITR motor

But i personally liked the Ls/Vtec with CTR pistons. Oh that sounds so good

Heard some good things about them
