Default Removing the intake resinator

I've heard that doing this will actually hurt performance on the type-R, I don't see how it will but is this true?

If I remove the resinator, where should I place the aluminum air duct for best results?

Also what is the best bang for your buck drop in filter? K&N? Spoon?

Thanks!

I see.........

Will the K&N drop in filter fit perfectly for the R? I know on the website it says for all models but I heard of people having to modify it a bit to make it fit, is this true as well?

Anyone else have any insight on this setup? Is it worth it? Better than a CAI or SRI? I know for sure that this will have better throttle response over a CAI.........opinions please.

You might see a no power loss from running the K&N on the end of the tube with no air box but if you remove the resonator in the wheel well and leave the air box this is what you will find happens. I had these sam,e results on 2 different Type-Rs. This is the most exxaggerated result but I can't find any other dyno runs with these conditions.

The first run is stock with K&N filter. The other run is a few minutes later with no changes except the resonator in the wheel well removed. Sorry the pic is so small. The First run was 158.65 and the second run was 150.92. Figure about a 7.5 hp lossa. The other time I did this test it was a 3 hp loss.

Hmmm interesting. Any explination as to why this happens? What are you running for intake right now?

I'd say it is a combination of air flow restriction and air temperature.

I run an Icebox. If I didn't have this I would stay fully stock with K&N drop in.

I don't get why the spoon integra has that setup then??????

Will this not work for our cars? Is this not pretty much an icebox setup?

Been there, done that.

It's louder... that's about it. Either just keep the stock intake setup or get a real aftermarket intake.

Comptech Icebox w/ stock arm(changing the arm from the box to the TB doesnt seem to make a difference).

you can remove the resonator, break the "milk jug" in half, and replace the pipe from the airbox down to where the resonator was. it's easy, free, and should produce results about as good as the comptech ice box.

I'm not so fond of the AEM CAI, had it on my last car........Gonna go the stock box route and use the aluminum air duct to simulate an ice box, worse case senario I will just put back the stock resinator if the air duct seems to be more hurtful than beneficial......spoon air filter here I come

If your worried about spending too much money on the Mugen intake, why are you buying a Spoon filter?

Spoon runs that setup becuase they are required by their race class to run the stock intake.

It has been proven that the larger the volume around the intake will increase the vacume, thus yeilding more performace. Hence Mugen and Comptech.
