Knock Knock On My Cranks Door
Help!
I want to see what everyone openion is about a problem I am having.
I have a 00 Civic EX with 55k miles, a MSD coil, 6A box, wires, a B&M fuel reg. @ 39lbs., short air intake and filter, Hayame exhaust, 55hp shot of N2O, and a A/F gauge (running great engine stats). Several days ago I noticed a knocking @ 2500 rpm and up in cyl. 4. After checking several diff. options I decided it was rod bearings and opened up the bottom end. I was right, #4's bearings were shot. The #1 cyl. was on it's way to the condition 4 was in and 2 & 3 were ok but show wear toward the sides. The bearings did not spin like I thought was the case, but rather appear to have burnt up. All of the bearings show hot marks on the back and #1 & 4 have worn down to the brass and are cracking through the center (#4 actually shows steel under the brass from where parts of it were torn away. I have decided to go through the entire engine and build it up, but i am unsure what has caused the problem. I believe it is oil starvation, and that maybe it's an oil gallery, bad oil pump, or the block was not true. I do not believe N2O was the reason, because the pistons and valves are in great shape, 2 out of 4 bearings appear to be good, the mains are good, no rod damage, and the bearings look as if they have been really hot. Has anyone else seen this, or have any other ideas to the source that I have not mentioned?
Below is a pic of the bearings:
(left #4 cyl. then, 3, 2, and 1 on right)
Thanks,
Byron
