Default Are adjustable cam gears worth it? Does a head swap raise compression?

Sorry I tried searching for this but couldn't find any that directly addressed my questions. I have a D16y7, see my sig, and I have an AEM Tru-Time Adjustable Cam-gear sitting in my closet. Now I've noticed that not many people either have or list this mod when they are going "forced induction". So this poses two ?'s for you all:

1) Is it worth the extra couple hp?
I have a 5spd swap coming up (that is my main priority now that my turbo install is done). I'm thinking about swapping to a VTec head but I may not if I decide to build the block.

2) NOOB question: Couldn't Hondata or AEM EMS allow me or tuner to control timing so that the Cam-gear would be useless?

3) If I swap to a D16y8 Vtec head, will I be raising my compression? Sorry for the noob question but according to my Chilton's, all D16y7/8 have the same compression so I don't see how it would raise it. One of my friends said it would. ???

Thanks for your help n patience. I'm still trying to learn my way around Honda's since I luv em soo much.
