h23 vtec/ vtec wont come on
i am useing a h22 head gasket
i did remove the oil plug in the block
vtec solinoid works(at least it clicks when i put a shunt to power)
i also tap into the vtec wire(at the ecm) and it s showing 12v after 5500rpm
what the hell!!! don t tell me im not getting oil pressure(check engine lites not on). i don t have my oil pressure gauge so i can t check it now.but if anyone came across this before let me know.

try cleaning that filter behind the vtec solonoid. you might want to rig up a switch, see if vtec turns on when you are driving, if it does theres a short somewhere.
If your ecu is outputting the voltage then It should be working... Are you sure you had the vtec solenoid wire and not the oil pressure switch..... If the ecu is sending voltage to the solenoid then in theory all the parameters to engage vtec should have been met and the ecu has the green light to go.....ie oil pressure, throttle, etc. hmmm
run a wire from the engine harness plug to the solenoid back inside the car and see if you have voltage there......

we just got done with my swap. and i can't believe i did it. but i overlooked the vtec solenoid when wiring everything up. and didn't quite get the solenoid and harness clipped in so i didn't have vtec.
a simple 5 min. look over found and fixed my problem.

thanks 4 all the reply
but its not an electrical problem/ i can make the solinoid click by giving the vtec signal wire 12v at the ecu connector( and i am reading 12 after 5500 rpm)

i thought the ecu won t engage the vtec solinoid unless it sees vtec oil pressure
(beside wouldn t i have a check engine lite on with a code 22)

theoretically speaking. if you were to send the proper voltage to the solenoid via a tester or whatnot. then it will engage. or "click". but while driving. if the vtec oil pressure switch isn't reading right or has a voltage problem the car will not hit vtec.
Bah listen if the ecu is outputing the voltage to the solenoid then oil presure etc (all parameters ecu checks) have been met by the ecu..
I think you need to run a line back to the car from the harness like a said before and see if you are getting voltage from the harness to the solenoid.
Also if you want Ghetto vtec just for test DO not drive around like this
Run a wire from the solenoid to inside the car and at the proper RPM hook it to a 12v source instant ghetto vtec minus all the neccessary ignition and fuel changes but it will work as a test....
A friend of mine got a half *** swap done all kinds of heaches wrong plugs here and there etc... Took many hours to trouble shoot eveything, but eventually after the car ran right he still had no vtec turned out to be a bad ecu it would not output voltage to the solenoid...
But if you say you have voltage then it has to be either wiring to or the solenoid itself...

Yeah, you should of just put the H22 in there to begin with.

It may not seem like it, but you may have VTEC engaging. It's not TOO obvious, just by sound or pull...</TD></TR></TABLE>
i loosen all the exhaust manifold bolts and made a huge exhaust leak so i can hear the difference.this is the same thing i do to check most obd2 cars that u can t tell if vtec is on or not(and u can head the difference when a big exhaust leak is created)

i finally know why i dont have vtec!
but im still ****. i have the rocker arms all mixed up... how do i know which way to put it ? (i know now that one of the rocker arms has a return spring and a stopper piston in it.)

Haha, nice mess. Best bet is to find a diagram of how it all goes in and check it
over. </TD></TR></TABLE>
it wasn t my fault/ stupid machine shop took it all apart and put everything in a bag. i had to guess and put it all back the best way i though of. (the first mistake was putting the lost motion device upside down, the second was forgetting the gasket o ring in the center cam bearing, and finally mixing up the rocker arms)
i m sure i figure it out too. soon! i hope!
