N2O street usage.
over time i had been told that the usage of N20 was illegal on the streets. i just got off of the phone with the virginia safety department (Lt. R. B. Saunders ) and was told YES to the following questions.
1- can i have a Nitrous Oxide system installed in my car?
2- can i have the bottle attached to the lines, which run to the engine?
3- can the bottle be filled?
4- can it be used on the streets?
the only time that N2O is illegal is if there is a leak (a blow down tube doing its job is not considered a leak) or if i bypass the emissions controls. otherwise it is completely legal in the Commonwealth of Virginia to use Nitrous oxide on the streets. this just goes to show, dont listen to what others tell you when it comes to the law. look it up. and if that fails like it did in my case call the authorities. they can actually help you.

sweet - i was just going off what i heard, that it was illegal to have it inside the cabin, or open while on the street.
so it is legal to use it on the streets. well you still have to wait a while to install huh.

in north carolina it is illegal to use on the streets, but not illegal to have it installed on a car. however, the line MUST be disconnected from the bottle while on the street otherwise they can impound your car (most cops will let it slide, however, they have the power to do so). technically, the only thing they can get you for if your bottle is disconnected in your car is for hauling hazardous materials, in which case you have to have a commercial driver's liscense with a HazMat endorsment, and the vehicle must have plackard's on it showing that it is hauling nitrous oxide
now, this is the only perfectly legal way to have nitrous oxide on the streets in NC, but like i said, majority of the time, you can get away with it.

Every state has different laws, which are controlled by each state's DOT. In WI it is fine as long as the nitrous is in a sealed container(ie. the bottle). Now you can argue that the intake manifold and motor are sealed containers because none of the nitrous gets into the atmosphere when sprayed into them. The real questions are:
-will a cop send you to court if you have a nitrous kit?-maybe
-Will a judge interpret the law to say that nitrous is illegal?-maybe
The government hates street racing right now, so there is a chance that the "Man" could try to screw you over. The safe thing to do is check with your DOT and get a copy of the laws to keep in your car in case you get pulled over.

very good advice. now when you go to court though they will be like, do you really need that shot of juice to get to the legal spped limit of 45 MPH???
