^isnt that the problem? doesnt really matter what car it is though
ok if you dont want to listen to the cel, just unscrew the o2 sensor at the header and look at it...see that its fine....then unbolt the cat from the exhaust, look at it, and then replace

Jack your car up safely and then get a rubber mallet and softly hit your cat a few times...if you hear something that sounds like its rattling or moving around in there its your cat..
just checked mine after my header reinstall last week, you need an ohm meter. check with engine running and ground the black probe and put the red probe in I believe the white wire, or what ever wire indicates up to one volt. what it is, is that the o2 sensor makes voltage from 1 volt or less, .1 being lean, .5 stioch, and above rich, Im pretty sure.
when you find what wire is sending the voltage, probe into the connecter and move the throttle wile reading the meter, if its not reading across the board, say between .3 and .8, its probably bad. when you tap the throttle it should change very rapidly from low to high ( kinda hard to descriibe without pics) mine only read between .5 and .6, mine was bad.. Hope all this info I threw at you helps

take your car to HONDA. there is an emissions extension warrenty on all 96-97 civics. it covers cat, o2's, sparkplugs, everthing like that. if you were to feel comfortable sending your vin to me I could run a vin statis through HONDA and see what is exactly covered under that vin.
