2000 Ek Coilover Suggestions...
A little drag racing, a little autocross, mostly street driving. Want a decent ride, great handling, and the ability to drop it low. I was thinking of prices below $1500.
Thanks in advance.

When you say JIC, are you talking about the FLT-2? Does anyone you know have these?
I have contemplated most of the Tein's, the JIC's, tanabe and Apexi and am still unsure. Thanks for the opinions.

Hearsay is irrelevant. Many people like to suggest stuff they have never ridden in, or even seen for that matter, and may cause a bit of confusion due to misinformation.
For daily driving, mild Auto-X, and occasional dragging a Ground Control with Koni setup would be your best bang for the buck. You can even pick your own custom spring rates and GC will take care of it for you. Pair that up with a set of Koni yellows and you're set. Doesn't sound like you want something as 'bling' or high-end as Tein. A $1500 setup will end up being a more serious setup than what you are looking for, unless you just feel like blowing cash.

Teins are a full or true coilover. They are considered one of the best coilover producers. I say get the SS(about $900) or go with HA or Flex if you are willing to spend more money.

Koni's + GC w/ custom spring rates > Tayne

The only problem I have with that recommendation is that for just a little bit more, you can get Tein SS (which are the same shock as a HA, but without helper springs and slightly softer spring rates).
Not to say that isn't a good setup, though.

Very good point, Tony!!
I took that into consideration as well, but I kinda thought the ability to choose custom spring rates on the GC's made it a little better suited for the application in question.

whoa, never knew it was pronounced that way. i always thought it sounded like TIE-N.hmm . . .
i would suggest: Dropzone coilovers, i have 'em;theyre sweet;end of story, tokico illuminas, and the rest can be spent on rear sway, tie bars, strut bars . . . .

It isn't as easy, but you can choose custom springs on Teins from what I understand too. But I do believe there is an upcharge when you do that.
Also note that one of the reasons the koni/gc setup is pushed so hard in the RR/autox forum is that in SCCA roadracing, a bunch of the classes dont allow a full coilover.
Whatever you do end up getting, especially when it comes to full coilovers, make sure it can be serviced in the USA, else you will be sending your **** back to Japan to get serviced.
I know Tein can be serviced here, Apexi and JIC, I am pretty sure can too.
The other advantage of the Koni setup is that they are readily available in qtys of one. So if you damage a shock, you can get a new one fairly easy. With a JDM coilover of any brand, it may be a little more difficult, especially if the shock cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced.

Thanks for all the info. I defintely am not in to blowing my wad
, I just want to make sure I do it right the first time. Afterall, the more $ I save on the coilovers, the more I can blow at Mitchell Brothers.
Good info TonyX and Evil!

i had the type flex with edfc, ITR control arms and such
it handled great but it was a very harsh ride (granted i was slammed)
i beleive for the ek youll need the CTR arms
its great if you got the cash
i paid 1550 for the type flex, edfc, shipped to my door :D

I have owned Apexi N1 spec 99, TEIN RAs, Buddy Club RS dampers, and tried spoon N1s. Honestly, the best track/street combo will have to be either the spoons or Buddy clubs. The ride on the street is very civilized but once you crank the dail up, they are stiff as FAWK on the track. But due to the high cost and design (they are not 3 way adjustable) of the spoons, i will go with the Buddy clubs.
