Weird Problem with LS/VTEC setup
Ok, i didn't know where to post this, so i hope one of you all-motor guys can find a clue.
Problem: 3-4th gear, full throttle, under load, around 7K rpm and accelerating... my motor goes into a retard stage, and it kind of hits like a rev limiter. It's like the whole motor just kicks back and rejects the fuel/spark going in... its very weird. And then the check engine light goes on immediately.
Ok, here's some more info:
Oil Level is more than good.
VTEC oil pressure CODE comes up after this...
Oil pressure code comes up... but i have my VTEC oil pressure Switch grounded out, so it's constantly sending a signal...
****, please help guys... any thoughts are welcome.

It's an OBD1, with a '95 OBD1 P72 ecu. The computer is now tuned, but it was doing it before it was tuned also.
Edit: it's a '94 Civic DX hatch

i had a prob with my car that sounds like that. on a hard pull it would die and throw a vtec ps code. i changed to a new ps drove it... bam code was back. got real mad. took a break. looked close at vtec sol and the wire was being held together by 2 strands of the copper. replaced it. never happened again.
you just running ecu no vafc because i know if you don't wire up the vtm wire it does the same and are you running a knock sensor with your set up if not that could be one problem

Ok, it seems that i definitely have to check the wiring....
but I'm running an OBD2 wire harness, with a knock sensor... obviously the OBD1 P72 computer reads knock sensor... but my '92 LS block doesn't have an opening for it. The knock sensor is not wired up right now. I have the ability to wire it up (but i don't know which pin it is on the ECU)...
ANYWAY!
>>I'm gonna check the wiring out tonight... from the computer all the way to the solenoid.
>> My current wiring scheme is wired indirectly through the wire harness (VTEC wire) to the ecu.
>> It isnt' wired directly to the solenoid, so i'll try that out too.
thanks guys.

that happened to me in the past when i would pull hard in gear. What I found it to be was that my vtec oil pressure line was loose. Since the line is loose but still connected only a little bit of oil leaks out, but since it is loose all the pressure is being released instead of directed to where it needs to go. Check out your ls/vtec oil line. It may be that after I tightened it, that code never came back
i do have a * slight * oil leak from my oil pan... do you guys think that might be it? i'm doing all the work today, so i hope for the best outcome.
thanks dudes

There's your problem.
There's your problem.
problem solved
Thanks to everyone for their advice... it revs freely to 8K with no hesitation now. It wasn't the knock sensor code... instead, i re-did all the wiring for the VTEC solenoid and VTEC oil pressure switch with hardwires straight to the ecu... fixed it... no problem.
Oh, and the butt dyno confirms an increase in power in top end
