Where do you guys shift on your LS motor?????
Just purchased a Integra race car with a LS motor. What RPM's do you guys shift at in the top three gears?

I hear that question all the time.... "what's the best RPMs to shift my motor at?"
My reponse, which is the same all the time.... "dyno your car, see where your max HP is at, that's your shift point."
There's no point to shift at 8000 if your motor doesn't make any power after 7400 rpms. Nor is there any point to shift early when racing if your car can make power higher. Can't get more simple than that.

It would have probably been a good idea to do more research prior to buying a RACE car, but hey, its your money.
Good luck with the car.
Good luck with the car.
Good Question. I also have a LS race car i rev to 7300 RPM thats where it stops pulling. But also depends how your power band is. if the power drops off at 7000 RPM then there is no use in reving past 7200.

ok this has been covered. if you shift at 8k, as opposed to 7.4k, you will shift into 2nd gear at a higher rpm than shifting at 7400 rpms. and the higher rpms you are at in 2nd gear, you'll have access to more of your torque in that gear.
shift at 7400rpms - land on 5500
shift at 8000rpms - land on 6000
those numbers are guestimates. but i think you know what i mean

You don't necissarily want to land higher in the RPM band.
Using your numbers as examples...
If your powerband starts at 5,500 and dies off at 7,500 you are better off shifting at 7,500 rather than stretching it out to 8,000rpm to land in the middle of your powerband rather than the begining of it.

Thanks for the help folks. The LS engine is stock (without any emissions gear). We did dyno it and it looks pretty close to a stock graph with max hp made just 200 rpm's higher due to some chip tuning. The motor has different valve springs (titanium) to cope with contant high rpm operation.
Have not had a chance to test the car yet but was told to shift at 7000 rpm's to get the engine back in the middle of the rev band rather than at the bottom.
Just wanted some opinions. Many times people equate more noise (higher rpm's) with more power when in actuality they have less power.
Since I don't plan to take the car to the drag strip or do standing starts (not street legal) I was trying to see what most on this board thought from their experiences.
integra707, I have no familiarity with Acuras but did quite a bit of research on the car before buying it. Just wanted some opinion from LS owners.
Great board! Thanks for the info!

This car was previously owned and raced by Nonnemaker Racing in Grand Am Cup. They ran three cars (all identical) and won the Grand Am Cup STII Championship with the car.
It's a GSR but with an LS motor.

you have a race car with a stock ls motor?? how did it win races? i mean, i'm sure it handles nice, but shouldn't a race car have power? correct me if i'm wrong.

If it has titanium valve springs and is a GSR with LS motor. I dont think that this car is legal in ITS.
Sorry had to mention it.

Not everyone needls lots of HP to go fast. Its 80% driver and 20%car.(this applies if you really know how to drive the wheels off the car. If you dont you better find a different hobby.
The car runs in Grand Am Cup STII class where the GSR and Type R motors are prohibited. Running the other two motors bumps you up a class.
I am replacing the LS motor with a GSR next season to run in SCCA.
The car is still pretty quick. Remember it's stripped and weighs only 2300 pounds.
It competed with Mazda Miatas, other Acura Integras, Mazda Proteges, and Chevy Cavalier Z-24's.
The motor makes just under 150 hp and has the exact same torque figure as a GSR.
Just to give you an idea a Type R motored Integra did a 1:44 at Mid Ohio race while this car did a 1:40. Only a 4 second difference between the two classes.
