Default speedometer stopped working...

wondering what can be the cause, people said VSS going bad, so far no codes was thrown, and it stays around 20mph once in a while and drops back down... anyone know a estimated cost to get this repaired?? never had it done before dont want to get jipped!

and is this a easy DIY job if anyone knows or done this? thanks in advance...

yah, your vss is out. i picked one up from the junkyard for $20, not sure how much it would cost new. installation is easy, it's just kinda hard to get at it from the engine bay.

mine was out for a couple weeks before i got a CEL. i'm not saying that's the only possiblity, but's it's definetely likely.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Mike813 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">if the vss stops working, shouldnt i be throwing a code 17 or something? and only the speedo is not working every other gauge on it works fine... think its the vss still?? thanks .. </TD></TR></TABLE>I'm not sure if the wiring is the same, but on my '95 Integra, the signal wire from the VSS splits somewhere in the wiring harness. One wire goes to the ECU, the other goes to the cluster. So if there's a break in the wire going to the cluster, then the ECU doesn't know or care - it's got it's signal so it won't throw a CEL.

if the wiring is loose shouldnt all the gauges not work?? i never did anything to the cluster before so i got no clue, but this morning i fired it up, the needle didnt move at all this time now its completly down and my trip meters not moving neither, imma bring in to a shop later and get the vss checked.. thanks for all the help ill post after its fixed.

::edit:: ok took it to my friends shop, the guy said if it has anything to do with the vss the light would blink to indicate its not working, but that didnt happen... he said the whole cluster might be going out soon.. so ill see into that in a little, might just geta digital speedo or something for now. thanks for al lthe help.
