Please help me soon! Shocks.
ok, i haev my entire shock/spring assembnly out of my car, BUT the top of the shock ( i haev already compressed my spring) taht top bolt will NOT MOVE, I put an allen wrench in there, still nothing, help me please. I think that bolt that the allen wrench goes in may even be strpiied now.
Sometimes when i cant get the nut of with the allen wrench is just compress the spring enough to relive some tesion and them use a pair of vise grips on the shaft of the shock, just lossen the nuts lowly and it will come of fine. It will take it off in a sec. It may leave some marks on teh shock but they dont hurt. Works everytime liek a charm.

It does not really matter if you spin the shock shaft, it stays sealed.
Make sure you are using the right size allen wrench, and then just have a friend hold the allen wrench with some vice grips while you pull on the nut REALLY quickly with a wrench.
I have entirely twisted two allen wrenches through all of the shock/spring installations I have done!

oooooo, i just did this today and had the same problem
but only on the rear ones, the front top nuts were fine
anyway, i tried an imact and it didn't move it
so i ended up drilling out the threads on the nut
you already have a good pilot hole started with the hex hole
it was a bitch to do but once the hole was drilled i just ripped the nut off with the impact
after that everything went smoothly
well, except for the LCA bolts
but thats a different story

I stuck an allen wrench in the center and a vise grip on the nut. I stood on the end of the allen wrench to keep it in place and had my friend yank on the vice grips in the opposite direction. It worked for us.
yea, if you stripped the top part of the shock where the allen wrench goes in, your gonna need to hold the middle part with a vise grip while tightening the top screw
I just had a friend help me loosen the nut. We used a spring compressor to take the tension off and then we set a 5mm allen head about 180 degrees out of phase with the 14mm open-ended wrench. I stepped on teh allen wrench while he gave the 14mm open-ended wrench quick pushes to break it loose. It takes a little bit of effort, but not much to break it loose.
