What the EGR valve does to your intake manifold.
I was taking fuel injectors off an intake manifold and noticed that the EGR valve regulates exhaust back to the air intake. Since I was curious I ran water through the canal feeding into the intake and only one dripped water the rest were clogged. The intake manifold and fuel injectors were also badly covered with carbon build-up. I think the EGR valves real purpose is to ruin the intake with carbon build-up and make you want a new honda.
Have any of you been able to clean that canal because there's no way of getting in there.

The 92 and 93s have "removable" plugs right above the ports. If you can find a slide hammer with a screw attachment, you can use that to remove the port plugs, and then clean it out a bit.
I had to take my manifold completely off as I couldn't find a slide hammer. That sucked. It sucked even worse when I found slide hammers in the body part of a local automotive store a month later. ******* hell

No, they have to be pulled out.

What he said. They come up and out, not down and in.
It's a monumental pain in the ***, no matter what route you take. The slide hammer route is less of a pain in the *** if you can get it to work however :D

so removing these plugs gives you access to what exactly? the fuel injector canals? Could someone post a pic of where these bastards are (preferably on a 4th gen). I'm trying to find the culprit of my shuddering idle.
Thanks!
Thanks!
yes, when i removed my intake manifold on my car my intake ports were horribly clogged with carbon build up...id say the ports had been reduced to about the size of a nickel
cleaned, then after reinstall blocked off the egr with a blocker plate...

It can be done by yourself easy enough
I just pulled mine, split it into two parts and sent it into be steamed and cleaned up. My local machinest did not charge me much at all. Would have cost me more in tools and supplies then it did to have him bath it for me.
Hellish difference when its all cleaned up. Better if you port and pol. it too.

hello u say to block off the egr with the egr plate and then plug all the ports leading to it ???? so since thiers the egr valve and then on the other side theres the egr purge solenoid, do u take that out too and thiers also the vacum and the electrical plugs are u suppose to take those off too or wut??? thanks
if emissions is BS put your face in your exhaust and breathe deeply.
as far as teh EGR it helps increase fuel economy, reduce combustion chamber temperatures thus reducing NOx, and also reduces teh chance of pinging, and allows for a lot mroe timign advance at part throttle. is it messy, yes it can be on a higher milage car, SPECIALLY ones that are not run hard from time to time.
