b18c or b16 2nd generation
B18c hands down will own a b16a. even the second gen jdm. the b18 has nice low end and mid range where the b16 has top end only.
if you can get a b18c with a type r tranny that would be the way to go.

Totaly.. For the most part, you do wanna stick with "bigger is better."

If you can afford it, definitely go B18C. Stock for stock, it won't be much faster in the quarter mile (since it only has 10 more HP, and HP is what matters in the quarter mile). But it will be MUCH better on the street. Also, the B18C has the potential to make MUCH more power with a few mods than the B16A.
