Default Shifting points!

Hey Guys or Ladies,

At what rpms do you usually shift gears in order to get better fuel economy. I usually shift at 3500 rpms but don't get good mileage. My car has only 4000 miles on it could that also be the reason for mileage?

What's your definition of bad gas mileage?

I think it depends a lot on the driving conditions. I shift at 4000rpms most of the time, except when the car is cold, and I got 28mpg on my last tank, which included 4 autocross runs. However a very large percentage of that was crusing down the freeway in 5th gear. The tank before that was more stop-and-go driving, plus a few 2nd gear runs to redline-- that was 22mpg.

3-3.5k seems about where i usually shift......city i get in the mid 20mpg range.....highway, on a 400+ mile trip i got 37mpg....

Also it's not just how high the revs are, but also how deep you push the right most pedal .. slowly cruising to 3.5k and flooring it to 3.5 is different....

but yeah what is "bad" gas milage
