Help: Check timing...
i bought a timing gun with a **** to advance my timing to 18.
i know this sounds stupid, but i'm a little lost. i printed out the instructions on cspeed-racing and i jumped the service connector.
my problem is, i really don't see what i'm supposed to look at. i don't see a little triangle on the block. and i the little lines are all over the place.
i know a lot of the problem has to do with using the **** on the timing gun, but i figured it would be more accurate si i bought it witht the ****.
can someone please help me out here.
i know i'll get responses to take it to a professional...but i gotta learn somehow.
thanks!

turn the **** back to zero for now, then try looking again on the crank pully for any type of markings.
as I remember, look down on the right side of the pully when you're facing the engine from the driver's side fender.

alright....i think i got it now.
the problem before was that the service connector must not have been connected when i thought it was.
now, when i tried again, the white marking was not moving so much....maybe only 1mm variations.
anyways, this is what i did. if anything sounds wrong please please someone inform me....
while looking down near crank i saw the "traingle thingy" which serves as the pointer. i adjusted the **** until the white mark was DIRECTLY below the arrow when looking down directly from above. the **** read at 16 degrees, stock.
so then i moved the distributor a little backwards and then measured where the **** measured when the white line was directly below the arrow. i did this until the timing gun **** read 18 degrees while the white line and arrow matched. i tigthened everything up and took her for a run.
i honestly think i feel more power in the low-mid range. i also put her in 5th with the a/c on and floored it to check for pinging...and none!
anyways, i'm pretty sure i did this right. can i please get a confirmation from someone?
thanks!

yep, that sounds right.
remember to pull the jumper and recheck the dist bolts. don't make the bolts real tight as it will be a bitch to get them of next time you try to adjust.
good job
and yes, I felt more power in the low and midrange, too.
