MIni-me help! Will not run at high rpms
Hi all
Running:
OBD-1 injectors,dizzy,p28
No codes
95 vtec head(sorry cant remember the number D16z6?)
B&M adjustable fuel regulator
AEM cam sprocket
Checked timing and its pefect! install the fuel presure regulator thinking it was going lean!
Car runs excellent until V-tec kicks in then it pulls strong until about 5 to 5.5 k rmps and starts buggin( missfire) then from 6k rmps same thing until 6.5k, plugs new plug wires new too been gap and all still problem persist im thinking about cheacking the cat and maybe the fuel regulator but the car was fine before the swap was done!
Even with the old distributor i had these same problem! then i switch ECU and distributor and injectors! feals faster but still missfire oR stalls at higher RPMS
any clue

Yeah i thougth about filter been to old probaby!
altho it should have been doing these even with the Si head and it was running fine with it?
Ill go pull the cat tomorrow and replace the Filter! will let you know!
Anyone else have input? i cant be the only one with these problem!

Yeah if it was working fine with the original setup then it most likely wont be the filter, are you 100% sure vtec is engaging and its not just running out of the powerband? Thats weird mang...

pretty sure Vtec is fine!
Not my first Vtec! swaped a 2.2 vtec into a 91 prelude long time ago!
had 99 Si soon they came out and same for teh RSX-S Plus these Mini-me
its first time some like these happends tho!
i know they bug if oil presure to low! I unpluged the vtec solonoid and still slow as hell and 5-5.5 k RPMs it wont go pass it!
Ill change the fuel filter today anyway!
i did try advancing and retarding the timing and only use 93 Octance gas. Those not feal like is knock feels more like missfire! like the fire sequence all out place when gets into the 5k RPMS
Well thanks guys ill check the post and try figure out what hell wrong with it!

Did you pull the oil jet in the block?

VERY IMPORTANT: If you have a D15 block (or any D-series block with an oil jet for that matter), you need to make sure that you remove the oil jet between cylinders 2 and 3 when you do this swap. If you don’t, you won’t have VTEC. I forgot to pull the oil jet out the first time. You won’t get a code, your ECU will say your solenoid is fine and everything is working great but VTEC will not actually engage.

You knwo now that you mention! i probably forgot to pull that off!
did you get same problem it would not go over 5k rmps? or missfire?
Or you just didnt get power!

no my car stopped making power after 6k (i was revving to 7200)...i figure your problem could be the result of the same mistake that I made
WAs trying to adjust the timing on the distributor! so i loose the bolts enogh so that i could retard timing little while reving car see the Missfire would stop!
I notice right when it hit 5.5k that sparks are coming from the distributor and the botls that attach it to the head! it happend every time right when it hit the missfire problem.
Any thoughts?
Yo Guru
I just check teh guide you made for the swap!
Very nice!
I think i know what the problem is Im usign the VX timing belt!!!!!! Thats got to be man these head was runing on a D15.. Has to be that i check the oil plug and i did remove it so thats out of the ?
Has to be these timing belt thing b/c if it did the same With the old ECU and the old distributor!
Ill go tomorrow and buy a damn timing belt ill let you know thanks for the help.

OK, sparks flying from the distributor mean there is excessive resistance farther down stream in the ignition system (coil--->plug). Being there are sparks at distributor tells me that there is less resistance there than at the air gap in the plugs (or cap/rotor). I would say if any of the ignition components are questionable replace everything! (coil, cap, rotor, wires, plug) That is if you haven't allready. Make sure timing is checked with a light too. And about that oil jet. That will make vtec not engage or engage sporatically. You gotta pull that out. Worse it probably take oil away from the camshafts when it trys to engage vtec lobe. I got my d16z6 working off a used dizzy and mismatched wires (lol). Did a full tune-up (NGK blue wires and plugs, cap, rotor) and driveability improved 10-fold. The timing belt is different between the d15 88-96 non-vetc and the 92-95 d16 vtec head. Another high-possibility.
